I have an usually low body temperature, so the laptop can double as a radiator as well!

I cant wait to play half-life 2. I was talking to the guys who wrote Havok (the physics engine) in Dublin a few months ago, and the stuff they were showing off was incredible even though it was beta stage. The rag doll physics were amazing; they had a demo where each time you clicked the mouse you threw a model of a man down an obstacle course with full physical effects on his body, and the whole thing ran at a full 60 fps even with hundreds of men on screen.

Along with amazing graphics and hopefully the gameplay of the original it should be fantastic.

I checked around quite a lot of sites for news on the released date. Some said September 30th, others October/November, and some even 2004. Anyone have any idea on the true release date? I see Amazon have it down as 30th September, and they are quite reliable - *prays to the Gods*

    Edit:

Just went to Havoks website and saw this screen shot of the aforementioned demo

if you consider a geforce 4 ti4600 with a p3 1.3 ghz crappy then yes it wil run....

ofcourse on the lowest settings with 2 by 2 pixels it should be able to run on a tnt2 500 mhz athlon.

Heard it could run on 700MHZ with a tnt2 or rage 128, although thats probably not going to look the best.

I am just hoping my GeForce 2 will run it...I can't wait.

Half-Life's engine is called "The Source" but the physics in the game is from a physics engine developed by Havok. They develop physics engines and license them off to companies. Many game companies have used their engine, but they also license off the engine to animation companies. The Matrix Reloaded used Havok (remember the scene with all the agent smith's?), as well as other films like Black Hawk Down. A much scaled down version of Havok actually comes free with Director 8.5, and Havok is also shipped with 3D Studio Max 5.

I wish this thread never came up, because now Im going to spend the next week in anticapition for my laptop and Half-Life 2! Does anyone know if any special edition of it is going to be released, or if they are just doing a standard release.

    Of course.

Just like number one, but ten times better in graphics.
