The public beta is meant to give users a sneak peak of Macromedia Central. It is a beta of the Macromedia Central environment. We will be having an additional developer beta in the coming weeks. This will be targeted at developers interested in developing applications for Macromedia Central.
I'll have some code samples et cetera later...

They're still there. It runs in a separate window.

Looks interesting. Similar in concept to the new OSX Sherlock. I think I'll test it out on the Mac - would like to get my hands on the developer public beta and explore what functionality this might have in a corporate environment.
Haven't gone through all of the documentation yet, but does this also run on portable devices?
(And hey, where are all of the MX 2004 books on that list? )
I kind of like MM's description of the product category. "Information Convenience"

ahhh, you have to click the little arrow thing to open one in the tile, I thought it would be in that window but it was only showing me notices. That's cool.
couple of things spring to mind, any chance of being able to 'dock' the console window, and any chance of a 'keep on top' option in the prefs so you can keep the dock open and not have other windows cover it up?... like winamp.

Good ideas...
I would also love to see it chromeless / transparent.
Yeah, the first thing I wanted to do with the pod window when I saw it was dock it and get rid of the chrome. Doesn't look good against the nice skin they've got.

BTW - I know they're pulling this from an existing feed, but it would be killer if they included Flash video trailer previews in the app. Really show off the advantages of using Flash for something like this.

Hmm, that would be a cool app (and pretty easy to make).

Ah cool, thanks for the heads-up. I can see something like a multi-platform version of Vindigo being useful and relatively easy to implement in Central.
OOH OOH! Maybe you can port AvantGo to it and have Tom Peters (*cough*jerkwad*cough*)do your commercials!

Looking at the reactions to Central in the community as a whole I thought of another question, relating to the method of sorting applications for distribution.
the 'app finder' isn't up yet but I'm wondering how it will sort through available applications. Will there be a user-rated ranking system and/or ranked by downloads? I assume there will be a general search facility, but what if my term is very general? For example, suppose that I'm looking for a simple RSS reader that I plug my own selection of feeds into, similar to the blago reader, and there are over a hundred responses.
I suppose what I'm asking is will there be a way to make feedback or comment on apps, make recommendations, etc? It would be nice to see a 'community' element to central, not a forum, but just some way in which the 'good word' could be passed around, helping users find the best apps for their requirements.
