Please check out my new site
I made this for my Film Studies class. Yes I got a lot of my inspiration from 24/7 studios. I was very pleased to find that they had their background available to download. but the main reason I chose this style is because I was studying film noir. I learned some javascript for this site, which I'm very pleased with.

Enjoy.

Hi DJ, very great work with the old movie.

Great style. Indeed, very similar to 24-7.
Very nicely done PS details.
I'm sort of ambivalent on the popups
though. In one sense, it's easier to see,
but on another hand, the popups break the
uniformity of the site. I dunno, it's a
personal preference, but I like having
all my content in the same window.
The only minor fault I could find was the
button rollovers. I would try to eliminate
the "jump" that occurs when you roll in
and out of the buttons really quickly.
I believe you can accomplish this by
making two buttons. The first one for
rollover, and the second one for
rollout. When the mouse rolls over the
rolloverbutton, disable that button.
When the animation stops, enable the
rolloutbutton. When the
rolloutanimation stops, enable the
rolloverbutton again.
But anyways, great work.
Cheers,

thanks.
Yeah I know I hate the jump as well but I can't figure out what to do. I wish there was an action "on roll off go to frame X only if frame Y has played" or something like that.
And Veniogenesis I tried what you sugested but that doesn't work because when someone rolls off the button before the animation is complete, the button stays at the raised state and doesn't move back down untill they go over and roll off it again.
I also don't like popups in particular either but for the amount of writing that was needed, I felt it was the best way to go. I tried to minimize the inconvenience by making the window the right dimensions for the movie and by having the close window button within the flash movie instead of having to use the browser to close the window.

Ah, I see. I guess it doesn't really matter.
Looks great nonetheless.

I figured it out. check out the buttons now.
instead of placing a stop action in the sprite where the button reaches the middle of the animation, I placed a button with the command: on roll over, stop.
so if the mouse is still on the button when the button reaches the top point of the animation it will stop, and if the mouse isn't on the button, the animation just continues.
Thanks for your comments, without them I probably would have just left it the way it was. now it looks that much better.
