    drop down menu buttons

    Hi all,

I'm trying to build a nevigation sys that has 3 buttons that each one when rolled-over opens a sub menu with a few buttons on each.

the sub menu is not nesessarily placed under the titled button so I have a problem defining the hit areas (if I need to do it at all..?) and telling the sub menu to close when I'm opening a different one (I'm fiddling with the movieClip inside button and so on already..)

    can someone help please?
    Thanks in advance,

    Shirshiron

try this out... and then just customize is or follow the way it was made, so that you can make your own...

for the hit areas... i'm guessing that the buttons in the submenu will have their own hit areas, so nothing to worry about(i think) since the hit areas get triggered only if the button is in display already.

i hope it works for you.

p.s. this is not my file... i think i got it from this site...

    drop down menu buttons

MXGEN, first of all, thank you so much for replying!!!

and back to my question.. my problem with what you sent is that my submenu that opens is not right under the main button but have a space between them and then after it opens the menu it closes when I go out from the main button and on the invisible one before I even get near my buttons.

do you have any suggestion as for how to tackle this?

    thanks again

first.. sorry about that... i was in a rush...

second.. oldnewbie's got a better fix... actually the original state that file was when i first got it.

third... what space do you mean? perhaps if you attach a picture of it here, so we can see what exactly you want... unless oldnewbie's got it fixed for you already.

    drop down menu...

What I meant was that I have a few main buttons horizontally at the top. Under them I have a graphic-image band, and the sub menu’s opens vertically under the band so to get to them you have to get out of the main button hit area and you have a ‘dead space’ (the graphic band) before reaching the sub’s hit areas. This consequencelly causes the submenu to close before I reach it…

For lack of time I eventually solved it the long old-fashioned way of creating each desired frame somewhere on the time line and the buttons jumps between them.

It works fine, but since sometimes you have to make many more buttons than the three I got and this way could get very tedious , if you have any better way to deal with this, I would love to know about it!!

Again, thanks for the time and attention.

thanks... it looks good... perhaps the colors are the only things that need some updating... or changing, rather.

    thanks!
