Invitation: calling film buffs in NYC

Lately posting invites here has become tricky but oh well some might appreciate it so here it comes:

Not too long ago, a FK member contacted me asking if I could do a Flash piece for her film and the result was a Flash MX animation that is used for the dream sequence in her film (D. Lynch eat your heart out ).

Her film is now being shown at the "Gay Experimental film festival" which opened this week here in NYC. I hear HBO is also interested which is great news for everyone involved.

If you are in the area this week and would like to see a cool little movie(plus Flash on the big screen) come to the screening this Friday at 9pm. The film is in Spanish with English subtitles and was shot in Brooklyn by Viva Ruiz.

    Title: Rosa Negra
    with
    MIKE ALBO (aka dazzle dazzle)
    REBECCA SUMNER-BURGOS (aka dt dazzle)
    MARA CARIZZO
    MACAULEY ELMER

    Location:
    Anthology Film Archives
    32 2nd Avenue @2nd St.
    New York, NY 10003 USA
    Phone Number: (212) 505-5181

We will go to MI (66 Madison av) for drinks and dinner afterwards and you are very welcome to join just wear a FK t-shirt or something yellow so that I know who you are

    a

    ps - ////DISCLAIMER////

This isn't spam or intended for any financial gains. It's just a simple invite to a little event here in NY that involves some FKers. If you are offended by it, I'll happily remove it. If you are interested, I'll see you soon. Take care.

I personally have no problems with invites in the CL - and I enjoy watching films in the buff, too.

[aside] What? She didn't mean that?

    OK, scratch that last part.

sounds cool. I'd like to go but I probably won't be able to get up there. So tell me more about the movie. Is it a feature or a short? It'd be cool to see some Flash used in a film. Do you know how she did it? Did she import the swf into After Effects? Or did she convert the swf to mov or something?

Nothing wrong with promoting an independent film imo. Forums are one of the few ways word can get out on projects like this.

When you've grown some curlies and gained a few years Flasher, you'll see that there's a whole big world out there, just waiting for you to come and explore.

Until then, eat your Wheaties and keep washing behind your ears.

Flasher, when you post, you do so in a way that makes slugs and other invertebrates look like Nobel prize winners.

It's a short. Yes the swf was converted and transferred to a tape. From then on it went straight to the Avid suite. It worked well also cos it's all vectors. The audio was also synched outside the Flash authoring environment.

I'll write a tute/ article about the whole process and will include some screenshots of pre and post-production when I get a chance.

I_am_TheFlasher - It's a genre-specific film festival. If you feel it's gross, you really don't have to come you know.

Hmm...NJ here I'm just a quick bus/train ride away. We're actually waiting for last minute confirmation on whether or not we're going to be playing that Friday night though...would have possibly came if I wasn't already busy though!

That's a tough call - you have to be in peak partying shape to handle the good times on my calendar.

    Aria,

could you post the link here too please or PM me too? I'd love to know more about it...

Would have been great to come to the screening but alas I'm in London. Sounds exactly like the kind of thing that I'd be interested in.

I'd love to see the piece you did online at some point if possible, especially if it's in the context of the movie.

    sure- will do

aversion: I can't post the actual animation online (at least not right now) but I am able to share some screenshots of the actual production process.

I am really swamped this week but I will try and get a tutorial together next weekend.

    [edit: note added]

    Note:
Keep in mind that this Flash piece wasn't intended for web delivery and it does look different in terms of frame rate, colors, outlines etc. To appreciate it online, I would have to open the fla, re-purpose the movie and publish it again which I'm not going to do.
