Lip sync tools :: Don't say Toon Boom

Can anyone reccomend any other lip sync tools? Toon Boom is fricking retarded, slowing down our production because of crappy import.

Someone mentioned Magpie Pro, but I'm not sure what format it'll output to, or if Flash can import it.

Magpie Pro exports as Flash, but if this is a one-off, it might be worth considering just hiring a freelance animator to do the lip synch for you - it will probably get done quicker, more to spec, and not require you to purchase and learn a new piece of software.

    Thanks.

We're doing it regularly, so it's worth the learning curve.

There's more packages if you're doing 3d animation (Ventroloquist, Fatlips), but if you're sticking with just Flash (and don't like Toon Boom), Magpie looks like the way to go.

Yeah, Flash only. Tons of animation to replace training videos. Lotsa lip sync. Toon Boom does alright. It's the importer that's making life a pain.

What I've always done was watch the levels on the sound when imported and vertically resized the lips on each frame to match the high of the sound. It works well, but takes a lot of time.

checked out magpie pro and it looks pretty nice. how does it work exactly for 2D? you just create a bunch of mouth key frames based on various sounds (ooh, aah, mmm, etc.) and the program then analyzes your soundtrack and creates a rough lipsynch?

can toon boom do the same thing?

    thanks.

Hmmm... I just did a little looking around, magpie does a pretty decent job. It was used in this flash animation here.

Have you taken a look at FlashAmp?

I can also speed up lip syncing by fudging it. I've used a method where I create a looping symbol of a, con, e, bmp, e. Place it on layer, convert to key frames. Then replace the l/th, o, u positions. And adjust for the speech breaks. Still manual labour invovled tho.
