    Audio Blips

I've encountered some annoying problems when attempting to create an .flv file in Flix Lite. When I try to encode the .flv file with a 30fps Video framerate and a 30fps SWF framerate, I get what can best be described as "blip" sounds at times throughout the video.

I've tried reducing the rate to 24 for each, but the blip sounds continue.

Only when I go as low as 15fps for each parameter do the blips seem to stop, but that compromises the quality of the video, which I'd rather not do.

I'm converting from Windows Media files at the highest quality at 30 fps, so I don't understand what the problem is with me setting the Framerates at 30 fps. Am I missing something here, or is it the program that's buggy?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

You say you hear blips. When do you hear blips? What are you doing with the FLV files? Are you importing them into Flash and then exporting a .swf file? If so, then it could be the settings you are using in Flash.

What format Windows Media is it (e.g.,9?)?
What audio export settings are you using in Flix?
You can try changing the audio bitrate and sampling rate and see if that helps.

    RE: Audio Blips

First off sorry for the delay in response and hope you're still there.

The blips appear after I export the .swf from Flash, but I don't see any settings that should cause this to occur. Besides, the .swf is just acting as the stage for the streaming external .flv file. Unfortunately, I know no other way to preview the .flv.

    As for the other questions.

    I'm currently using WMV8 format.

I've tried all sorts of export settings in Flix. It seems to work fine when I set the video to 15 fps in both the video and flash settings, regardless of what I set the audio sampling to. If I try going any higher than 15 fps, then the blips start up. This is unacceptable since I need to render it at 30 fps, or at least 24 fps.

    Hi.
If the blips occur after you export the file from Flash that means that the problem is happening on the conversion from Flash. You can try experimenting with the SWF audio export properties in Flash to see if you can get the blips to disappear.

    RE: audio blips

I'm having the same problem with blips in the audio when I encode an FLV file (using FlixLite) with any frame rate greater than 15 FPS. I am loading an external FLV file into a video player created in Flash MX Pro 2004 using the NetConnection and Video objects. Because the player SWF acts only as a stage for the video, audio export settings for that file do not apply.

It seems, through process of elimination, that the artifacts in the audio are created by Flix during encoding. I've experimented with various sample and bitrate settings and the blips are still present at frame rates greater than 15 FPS. It's critical to my current project that the videos be exported at 30 FPS.

    Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Do the blips occur if you export SWF instead of FLV?

No, but in the end I need to work with an FLV and not a SWF. There are several benefits to using external FLV files vs. embedded files.

I contacted Flix’s technical support, and they suggested that I import the FLV into Flash. However, I'm dealing with a client who would like to be able to keep his video reel up to date without having to buy and learn Flash.

In the end, Flix's technical support offered no fix for this problem. They said there’s no way of knowing if the problem is in Flix or in the Flash player attempting to play the Flix-encoded .FLV file.

Even if the problem is in Flash, it seems like it’s Flix's obligation to create software that encodes files that work fully with Flash ... otherwise, what's the point?

Hopefully they’ll update the software and fix this bug so I can recommend it to my clients.

I understand your frustration, but if the error occurs because of problems in the Flash player, there isn't much Wildform can do until the bug is fixed.
The fact that it works fine up to 15 fps leads me to believe that the player is starting to choke on the FLVs with the faster framerate.
Macromedia has already released several updates to the Flash player and media playback component to address bugs.
