    does flash make you money?

i have been fooling around with flash for 2 years now
but i dont feel like flash is making me money

for one, of all the falsh stuff ive done, about 10% gets posted somewhere
and of all that, 1% is probably for a client

    am i alone on this?
am i working for the wrong people?

i have flash skills, not necessarily design skills, but script skills, organization skills
yet i make no money from flash

    and i want to

We all want to make a living at Flash including myself.

What you have to do is find a nitch for yourself as I did with making Flash Sprite overlays for HTML web pages.

Example: Here is the first client I had about 18 months ago. There are 8 sprites on this page, one when you first enter the main page and 7 others that you click on the right side, click on the animal icons.

    www.lovemypets.com

Over the past 18 months I have created about 20 overlays for different clients but the one I made the most money on is a 5 minute infomercial for www.cyberartlearning.com . Scroll down and click on Artie.

I use animation along with music and audio narration to present the client product or service. Although at times sales can be slow I believe there is a market out there for my Flash product and service.

Just find a spot and promote the heck out of it.

    OK, I will:

Just find a spot and promote the heck out of it.

Plus get involved in email chat groups on many different subjects and make sure you put in your URL as a tag line.

Don't depend on just your web site, but I will have to say that if you put something on your site such as a game/humor/funny facts/free stuff you will word of mouth about your site and that always helps.

Be creative in how you advertise and remember the new spam laws just enacted as of Jan 1 2004.

From your first note it sounded like you were wanting to make a business out of doing flash. I also love doing what I do but I also want to be able to make a living.

flash dose make money for me!
but it's not the only design language i am using .
i think flash is best if you are a designer,as a programmer you can use java ect.
so if you programing really good stay with that.you want to design learn design.flash is another tool, and designres use it couse it is a great one.

It seems as though you don't know how-to market yourself Try networking to everyone you know on the net and offline (people u know in-person), let everyone know that you make designs at a good prices, and they will then know to come to you in future if anyone asks. Just keep the networking web going, and overtime, you'll have clients reffering clients straight to you, while you sit back & relax ;P

P.S: Business cards wouldn't hurt, excellent marketing tool to use with people, that would just like contact info from you quickly on the go.

The above advice is taken from experiance, so don't take this like an insult, in-fact if you get serious about designing nice flash or html sites, and follow those steps, I'm sure you will at least be able to get a few clients for some easy money.

I get paid for flash, and it was my flash work that got me my current job... doing ASP.. go figure lol

I still do flash on the side, and I can say I pull in a good 4 figures a month on the side just doing flash work, a site here, a banner there.

I'm not sure where you live, but I get my work off of craigslist. Lots of ppl want work for 50 bux 100 bux, some want full blown sites.. just pick and choose.... some folks want outrageous return for 50 bux.. you can just pass by them, but some folks will pay a couple hundred for a few hours of work, just sift through.

It doesn't hurt to do some probono work as well, maybe in an area of interest to you. You get great kudos and great word of mouth for your work.

Now my freelance stuff is being referred to me by prior clients.
Its never.. wow kool I like it, its always.. ok I made this.. how can it be better?
