Granted it's not completely done but I wanted to show you guys first before I finished it all.

    http://dbry.com/no-tec

    I still have to do:
    some audio tweaking
    make the splash prettier
    fix some links

    Any feedback is appreciated.

I recognize your style in this new version and that is good.
Beautiful the image of the crackers, but inadequate for a personal site.
    Congrats.

I've seen that nav somewhere before, where the tabs follow the mouse and bounce around. Site looks really good though!

I've seen the nav before too but the site is quite original and appealing. I would drop some of the attitude in the text but I understand that's your style. However, if you want someone (especially a professional corporation) to work with you then you'll want to portray professionalism as well as talent and ability. And a personal note on your resume (as a self proclaimed resume expert with quite a bit of experience) take off the thing about references on request. That's a given because if they request them...then you'll provide them. They don't need you to tell them. Other than that it's a very well put together website.

Thanks for the resume tip. all fixed. I appreciate it.

Yeah I was a tad sketchy about having attitude on the site, but than I thoght it's my site and it's not a corperation or anything and it's not there for business. Well it is, kinda, but I don't want to make it obvious. And if someone is turned off by a little humor and sarcasm than I'd be a bad person to have doing their site.

None the less, thanks guys for the compliments.

    Hi No-tec,
The design is good, but a few things struck me odd and I hope you don't take it as a sign of disrespect if I point out a few things.

I have to question the purpose of the site. I thought initially that you are looking for design business. But now it appears that you built it for your friends and classmates to view. All this talk of "last ditch effort to gain your respect" and bad grades and what types of people you like and dislike, all points to you not being familiar with business in general. Like you built it to impress the design community. Screw the design community, they don't write checks, clients do. Your contact page goes a long way to assure you won't be bothered by pesky business owners and their checkbooks. "do my best to respond to whatever you have to say" and "seriously, this better be good" are both good ways to keep the business out of your hair. It's like all this attitude indicates that you haven't yet grown out of the "We don't care" generation (GenX I guess?). The picture of you on the profile page with your head tilted and the attitude face doesn't say "trust me with your company's image". It says "punch me" or "keep me far from your daughter".
The "Why is this site even here" is a question that shouldn't be asked, and it certainly shouldn't be answered with "I don't know". You don't know why you built your own site? If you're not confident with displaying your own work, why should the viewer trust you with theirs?
Design-wise, not bad. Marketing-wise, suicidal. It's like you wanted to lay out your life for the world, instead of designing a site for a good graphics designer.

    Sorry for being a prick.

    John

Cosmic spelled out exactly what I was talking about by being professional. It's not about a sense of humor or sarcasm. They'll bring that up when you start talking about price. The point is that you want them to WANT to do business with you because you're easy to work with and they won't have to ride you to get the job done. The way it looks from your site is that it would be a waste of time even though it's obvious you're talented.

rawr. i hate it when people are right. *hot flashes ensue*
cosmic you do make a plethora of good points, and for this I will go through the text of my site and lighten it up a bit. although i have to argue my point first. I didn't make the site for the design community, nor my classmates. i dont even have classmates. i didnt make it to draw in clients either. I have a full time job right now doing design work, so im not putting my financial career in limbo by not being as professional as I can be.

i dont want to be one of those teenagers who must be as professional as possible by making a website and turning it into a company, using "we" and "our team" and making up price quotes. im not asking for a pity party either, although i think this is something that needs to change on the site b/c i dont think its so obvious.

I just realized this site was subconciously aimed at my parents. all the text on there was made out of spite for being the one child out of the 5 who is a punk and is quiet and 'wont make it in life' because i skate and dont get good grades, and lives in a fantasy world on the computer. but now look at me. ive never drank, smoked, or done drugs once. because of my fantasy world i have a full time high paying design job, a girlfriend of 2 years, have to turn away freelance work b/c i have so much, meet with clients in other cities, and have more contacts, education, and money than any of my other siblings and im only 20. and they still don't realize it. i guess i should thank them b/c of their comments ive become what i am. im not trying to brag if you think i am and im still not asking for pity. sorry for ranting. nothing i have ever done has gained their respect and if this site can't than im done trying. thats the idea behind my site.

i guess i need to go thru this all and rework it this weekend.
i appreciate you being a prick, you are one of the first people who've made me realize what i am. i hate you for it.

its not supposed to be an attitude picture its just supposed to be funny.

I had a feeling there was something behind the motivation.
Honestly man if you put together the site to draw professional views, they'll be sold on your work also. They're no different than a prospective customer: they want to be impressed. If their boy's made it, then show it. Nothing wrong with being the black sheep.
You've got the skills and portfolio to back it up all day. As always, the presentation is key. You can easily build a site they'll send their friends to look at, out of pride.

Good luck to ya Mr. No-tec.

i was wondering what had happened to your site. you posted it a while back, but it was unfinished at the time, just the nav i believe.

great work and glad to see that you finished, i don't think that i am talented enough to really critique your work. all i can say is that it looks damn good to me.

    nice work

man lighten up I understand that your parents think of your skills, my mom laughes when I call myself a designer but my dad is realy proud that I have found something I'm realy good at, if you dont think i'm any good wait 1month until I launch my new site. (alot of photoshop).

I belive they only way you can prove to your parent that you arent a screw up is to sit down and tell them what all you have achived and your only 20years old If they dont belive you get some mails from clients where they prais you and like what you have done for them and then show your parents that. I belive that then they will understand that you are serius about this and good at what you do.

I had the same story with my mom but then she read an email from a client who wanted to pay me more money then planed just because he was so happy with the work I did, then she said to me that she understands what I'm good at and LOVE to do.

    love the site mate.

I really like your site, you seen the one I made the "Wiessy site" you did a much better job using scrab paper and polaraids then I did, I was aiming for something like what you did but wasnt artistic enough lol

Cosmic is a real friend here being a prick... And youre aware of it. So theres really nutting to say... Being aware of it is half the way.

But youre talented, and youre a Flash designer. With your attitude working as a freelancer maybe a problem however even though you have to have a marketing approach there are a lots of people doing it before you if youre a chain in a teamwork.

In general I believe artists should stay as "artists". You might not be good at presenting yourself, writing texts and content but maybe you shouldnt?

SS Comic and Jeay, either one of you have ICQ or AIM? I'd like to talk more about this if you'd like to or get a chance.

Thanks guys for the comments. I appreciate it. I wrote a few of you emails back with praise.

I disagree with the comments about what you have wrote as your content, i have always taken the same appraoch on my folio site and just said what i want without being drawn into the business bull****, never once has a client been swayed by it and i have worked with some pretty conservative companies. Its your call, but i don't think it will harm you too much either way.

It would be nice to be able to stop the music (stop it from loading that is) as i don't like my bandwidth being eaten by something i have turned off.

    Overall though, damn cool site

I think your design was beautiful. I love how the background images break the barriers that they are in. I've never seen much of that before.

THe navagation portion, I don't care for too much, I like my bars to stay in one place not follow my mouse around. It just remends me of those sites where they have some floating hearts crap following your mouse and when you click it explodes in an array of birdies and love.....*yak*

aside from that. You site is very inspirational. makes me want to get out the old PS and do some designing instead of all the coding I've been doing.

    Kepp up the good work.
