I hope you are not knocking this persons stuff. Because that would be really uncool.

I would say on drawing hands and females... Go get a book on life drawing. (barnes and noble has plenty)The hands are probably the most difficult part of the body to draw. and if you always if you always drew men(coomic book characters and such) it is gonna be hard to draw women.
So, draw them as much as you can.

Commenting on your pics, They are really sketchy. This means that you are not sure exactly where to draw the line. Try really hard to picture it in your head. Then try to draw smooth lines as if you were tracing the picture. YOu will develop control that way.
keep it up, that is the ONLY way to improve.

try using HB or weaker pencils for sketches, then you can make plenty of those "spiky" lines, then once you trace with stronger pencil/ink it will be easier to know which one is the best looking to follow.
