Powerbook g4 or newest pc laptops

What do you guys think i should buy. The newest powerbook g4 15inch or a 2000$ HP Centrino laptop with about the same specs? I use studio mx 2004 and i like to program. What do you think?

I just bought a TR Series Vaio (should arrive tomorrow). While it's not the most powerful thing in the world, it'll get the job done and it's portable. It's also not my main workstation.

The powerbook will have more juice than any Centrino based system, but if you're going to do browser testing, Safari isn't exactly dominant.

Fine, you can be testing on IE 5 next year when the rest of us are on whatever comes out next.

Seriously, if you need power, go for the Mac.

You use StudioMX 2004....does this mean that you have versions for Mac and PC?

If not, then you should think about any additional software costs which will be incurred by switching OS.

If you've truly done all the research you want and decided that it's a toss up between the two, unless moneyt is no object at all, I think it's very valid to look at what software pkgs you will be installing on this machine...and see what it will cost you to replace versions if you decide to go that route.

Obviously, both machines will work. Spend the time and make the right choice.

I've got a PB4 vs 2.1....just before the new one came out....

I've tried heaps of laptops, Dell, Compac, Toshiba etc....I would never go back to a PC laptop again....Plus......its a great conversation starter..when some one sees you with one.

p.s. To the person who started this thread...I am sorry it (sigh - again) turned into a Mac vs. PC war, but if you read my post above, it should help in YOUR decision process.

Take a look at developer.apple.com , as for programming languages: pretty much anything you want - it's got a UNIX base
The developer tools are excellent and comes with a lot of documentation on how to use it.

The UNIX base of the OSX OS really gives you a lot of flexibility as far as programming goes - once you find a compiler for whatever you need, it's pretty much a slam dunk.

Scripting is usually done with (insert your fave text editor here), so that won't be an issue either.

Like I said, both systems will be very robust -- you just need to figure out what is going to work best with:
    1) Your budget
    2) Your need for particular software
    3) Your gut instinct.
Keep in mind, this is coming from a devout PC guy, so, I am not trying to bias you with "Mac rulez" or "Pc sux" jargon. In the end, what do YOU feel you will be most happy with - that is what is going to count. Look at what you need the thing for, and figure out benefits and limitations for both.
