    [Disc/Help] How much to charge?

Well, I have never imagined that my pong game would be this popular. Now, Miniclip has offered to buy it. Since I can't even work yet, I have little experience in the business area whatsoever, even less in the flash games side of business. How much would a game like that be worth? I don't want to charge too much, but then again, i don't want to charge too less because i actually put a lot of time and hair pulling on the AI (which might not be so apparent).

Thank you everyone for your suggestions.
(Thank you miniclip, my self-esteem just shot through the roof)

PS: for anyone that has never played it and needs to look at the game for reference, here is a link.

BTW, what does "non exclusively" mean?

    Well done mate

I don't think anyone is going to quote you figures in a public forum... perhaps someone may just give you an indicator of how to quote ( It's never easy, and never nice ).

"non exclusively" basically means that you can sell it to every site that will take it, hurray! It's still your game, miniclip are just paying for the licence to have it on their site. On the other hand, it means they are not buying the exclusive rights to your game, which means you won't earn as much from this sale ( So keep that in mind when quoting. As soon as a game is exclusive the cost of it rockets ).

    Squize.

ahh, thank you Squize. I understand that nobody will give me a quote in public. But can anyone give me some advice. Should i charge by the number of hours or maybe something else?

maybe i will sell them the exclusive rights...

I dont think charging by the hours is option if you want to licence already completed game to the site.

    Er... I found a bug
you can trap the ball at the edge of the screen by wedging it between the paddle and the wall. I only managed it once though, so i'm not sure how common it is. It does escape again when you move the paddle away.
Good luck with getting money, that is one hell of a nice pong game.

To fix that, couldn't you just add some code that lets the ball go through the paddle if it hits the wall, and then if the _x value of the ball is less than wherever your paddle is or something, it reactivates the hittest? I dunno if that makes sense to you, it does to me... good game.

Here's a question for the thread starter, how did your game get the exposure it needed to be noticed by miniclip?

I believe Rob from miniclip silently keeps an eye on these boards.

If you show a game on here, odds are he will see it

Alternatively, there are lots of free games sites who will take your games. They won't pay you anything, but some of the sites get thousands of hits. Great exposure.

Of course, if you do a search on some of the major search engines you will find lots of game sites.

Congrats on the interest from Miniclip. They are a great company to work with.

I hate to be the kill joy, but discussing pricing on a public forum (message boards, email lists, etc.) can be considered collusion. When a group of people in a similiar industry get together and discuss prices, it's labeled "price fixing". Price fixing is an illegal practice as it allows one group to control and drive market prices across the board. This is similiar to DeBeers(sp., the diamond cartels) or OPEC.

I was on a HTML/JS mailing list years ago where some prices were discussed and the list owners received a very threatening letter from a law-enforcement agency (don't remember which) that basically said "stop the pricing discussions or face legal action". I don't want to see anything like that happen to FlashKit.

No harm, no foul. Since no numbers were posted publically, it's probably worth keeping this thread around so others can learn from it.

Good luck with your game on MiniClip. Hope it does well for ya!
