You're starting to get on my nerves, mate. If you can't understand what I'm talking about, stop talking.

The entire world does not read left to right btw.

I'm talking about the direction your eyes move across a screen or a page. For instance, my eye on this webpage starts with the Vonage banner centered at the top and then moves down the rest of the page. Reading this Computer Arts magazine ad, I'm starting from the left and looking to the right.

Again, if you don't understand what I'm saying, don't say anything. I think this thread has run it's course.

so your trying to say http://www.k10k.net/ is read downwards then?

to say that websites are all read downwards is clearly false as shown by the above example. so that rule 101 of design comment is a pointless one. as there is no clear rule on how to layout content.

which is why the design process is such a creative one.

another good example to back this up is www.mediamonks.nl websites can be veiwed any way the designer wants the veiwer to veiw them. Why are you trying to standardise the internet. At present the internet as a design forum isn't yet fully realised it is still in its early days if it ever succeeds it needs pioneers, to push boundaries and to make people think differently. Hi-res are trying this with websites like the dreamers or reqiuem for a dream, yet they are still able to make a neat web site thats easy to navigate like the one they have done for topshop. We need people to experiment check out other good experimental sites like www.yugop.com or www.rice5.com the latter one is a really different style of navigation but who says this can't work.

In response to "This thread has run its course" i know it has with regards to my site but thats no longer the issue here and i didn't want to cut the debate short as everyone seems to be enjoying it ever so much........

There seems no reason to think this debate has ended. This seems to be a very interesting argument.

Villain, I understand what you're saying. I've read many articles saying that exact same thing but if you take some time to read what onionboy is saying then it should get you to at least re-evaluate your stance.

Personally I think that if you are a web designer then you should be way past clinging onto web design 101. There are many examples that prove you wrong and I'm sure many that will back-up your claims but you can't just pretend you don't hear other arguments. If you do that you will never improve.

I find that I scan through print in much the way that I will scan through websites. At the same time if I am interested enough in something I will follow whatever path my eyes are taken in by the design.

raspberryh- cheers for the comments much appreciated.
Agreed. that site was messed up. i actually dont like that site design. i am still just a newb to the design world. and yes as much as i love flash and the new 3D effects that are growing so much, i also like the old school look. it takes more ( IMO ) to put together a kick butt HTML than it takes for a ton of flash. creativly.

that dreamers site is bunk. sorry, to each his own but it was hella too slow.

the site this thread is actually about, lol... (sorry seems to have turned into a different thread eh! ) i like the look you have. keep at it

Okay, well my point is we've come to a stand still in this argument. I'm talking about sites for the public consumption, you're talking about personal sites to display your work. There are different rules for each, which you'll find out if you ever do a site for a major company or someone who wants their site to look "like those other business sites" etc. etc.

Basically, I'm bored of this thread. It's been going all week. Let's agree to disagree.
