i'm not sure if this will help but they did somethin similar over at the games forum and they posted a .fla "template". in the template you could name your .swf and press a button and the template would load the .swf. they used a callback function that the loaded .swf would call when the animation was finished.
this allowed people to test their movies BEFORE they submitted them.

not really. if the template loads the .swf into an mc then references to _root (and any other invasive operations) will cause the template or movie to work incorrectly. this means the guys who create the movies can fix them before sending them to the guy who is organizing the event.

Oh, I get what you're saying.

Well this shouldn't be a problem if people stick to motion/shape tweens and frame by frame.

Hey pooon, update the gang on smosh, we want to start animating for channel surfing 2! that would be cool if the guy in charge of this one could post a bit too, to let the smosh peoepl know we are serious about this one too.

edit: do I need more posts for an avatar?

Wow! How big is the main file (if you are generating it already, megatoon)?

I have storyboarded two ideas...will animated Friday, maybe... I might just slack, though...

It's a pity the majority of my ideas clock in at around 30 seconds

As it's channel surfing it doesn't really matter if the animation cut short or start in a funny place, just makes it more like real channel surfing
You could always do it in two parts also

When I was working on part one, the file size was over 100 megs by the end. 120 I think. When published it was as small as 2.9 megs for the low quality version.

I'm still finishing up my remaining animations. So i haven't attempted putting them together yet.

pooon, how did you go about putting the last Channel Surf together. Are you saying you actually copy/pasted each individual fla into a single Flash file?

That is correct. I'd first edit their .fla if needed (correcting fps or size), then I selected all the frames and turned it into one movie clip. I then dragged that movie clip from their .fla to the complete channel surfing fla, and dropped it into a video layer. I then took all the audio tracks from that movie clip and placed them into a layer on the main stage called audio. When they were all together I exported it as a .wav file, so all the sound effects were in one easy to manage file, as to prevent sounds from bleeding into the wrong scenes, as flash has a tendancy to do.

Wow! Not what I expected to tell you the truth. Thanks for all that hard work.

I was thinking more along the lines of adding the TV static to beginning of each clip. Then creating the main fla with the TV. Preload all the clips. Then use Load Movie to load them all independantly.

Not sure which way to go. I will definatly have to do some tests soon.
