view , get & send??

I am currently working on a project in which the user will be able to view information such as video, pdf files, etc. They also need to be able to send this information to another persons email. They may also chose to get the info in which they can download it to there computer. Here is the site that i need to setup this up on:

if you go to the news section you will see the icons at the buttom, they are currently not working. There are also icons on the role pages(consumer, advertiser, etc..) these also need to be able to be viewed.

The problem i am having is retreiving the info from the database. The site has a cms which holds the information the user will be trying to view , get or send.How do i tell my buttons to retreieve the info from the databse. The buttons are completely dynamic by the way
