Just Launched - Please Review
Thanks in advance to Ms Pamela, noticed that I had gray boxes around many animations...my screen gamma was fried, so everthing that was gray looked black.
Anyway, please hit me back with some criticisms or suggestions.
Thanks

Hi Dalan,
No problem with the assistance on the grey boxes. That is what we are here for.
But in re: to your Whitley Motorsports, this is not a SWiSH file. If you want a good critique on it you need to post it in an area where there are people who know more about this particular kind of website. Unfortunately I only work with SWiSH.
I did notice the neet car and I know that you could draw that in SWiSH and reduce your file size! :-)
Good Luck.

Sorry, I was so busy working on my stuff, I didn't even notice your posted a site for review.
Generally it has a nice look. I like the way there is always something going on when things are loading, even though somethings are quite meaningless, like the DOS like prompts > . But I did find myself looking at them which atleast keeps you there while it loads, the whole deal is keeping the user on the site.
I found the White on Gray text blocks very difficult to read at 800X600 and even harder at 1024 X 768. I don't know if it is the font or the color combination. Fonts are a whole big issue, some are huge and really impact the size of the file. Someone recently told me about this site that has a ton of nice fonts. Most of these are pixel fonts and do not resize but if you find the font you want in the size that looks good, they are fairly effecient. http://www.dafont.com/en/bitmap.php
You have some text :::xxxxx that are links and some that are not. I am a big advocate of highlighting in some way a link when your over one. Confusing navigation is the kiss of death.

Thanks for the input and the feedback. I will be going to that dafont site today to grab some fonts.
I try to be pretty original with some design, but some of my other skills go lacking. I have never been able to make a decent button in swish, or setup adequate navigation, so I have to relegate myself to hotspot imagemaps and stuff.
I am going to be upgrading to swhishmax in hopes that making navigation and stuff like that is easier.
-
I don't know anything about other products, I have SwishMax and have used nothing else. Buttons, navigation and menu's seem quite easy to do. There are so many places to get help including the forum on Swishzone, not matter what you are working on, someone will always be willing to help.
I wonder if you could take a look at my site ever so quickly, I took the red moving banner off. I think you could be right about it, because the registration form uses the same kind of input textfield and that gave you no problem. If you could please and let me know.
Thanks
Barry

REPLIES to A SITE CHECK POSTING
1) Answer any specific question put by the poster eg. Loading time
2) Be constructive in your criticism and keep it fact based. eg "your site sucks" is not constructive feedback.
List your suggestions and provide a short statement supporting them.
3) Do not hijack someone else's Site Check thread by including a link to your own site or work and seeking feedback.
Lets try to stay with the rules please OldRelayer. You can always send a PM to a particular person if it is that person you want to look at your site, but it is best to post your request in the proper forum in your own thread.
Thanks,
Ms Pamela

He had been helping me with my site, I wasn't hijacking his thread.
Wow, the internet use to be a kinder gentlier place.

I remind you again to please PM the person you are requesting personal information from so that others do not get the impression you are getting away with hyjacking, as no one else is going to be aware that you had previously been consulting with this person.
I personaly would think it was rude of you to do this on my thread even if I was helping you.
If you think even with my smile and a "Please" that I was not being kind and gentle then I guess I owe you an apology.
I am sorry. I strive to always give constructive critiques and be polite but straight forward when enforcing the rules as a moderator. You are no different than anyone else and the rules apply to all. Try not to wear your emotions on your sleeve.

Back to the grind....
I *really* like the general layout. That bar and car combo in relationship to the background texture works well!
Some offerings:
1) I would consider making the car also part of the 'enter with caution' functionality. In other words, if the visitor clicks 'enter with caution' or the car itself, it should take them to the same place. Finding 'enter with caution' as the gateway took me a second because I have the intelligence of a styrofoam monkey.
2) Clean up the bottom of the car's wheel closest to us and make the shading a bit smoother of a transition to gray.
3) Consider possibly adding black shading to the car to compliment the shadow cast by the vertical bar running the length of the page. Keep in mind that since the car is technically in front of the bar, its shadow would be slightly more distant (and further to the right a bit). I would not add any shading beneath the car where it is over the vertical bar. That clean look works wonderfully. Only maybe beyond the bar and to the right.
Just some thoughts.

Thanks for the input...will be trying to work this weekend on making those changes.
I have never been to your neck of the woods...but if I get that way, I will surely look you up and and the first round is on me (beer, wine, liquor, or tea..your choice!)
