Tube Amps: Replacing the tubes
Does anyone know anything about replacing the tubes in a tube amplifier?
-
Phantom Flasher...
Check your manual... some screw in, some push in, some are bayonette fittings.
Google your make of amp if you're not sure

I do.. just pull em out and stick the new ones in its place... id sugest reasearching what tubes u can swap for em beforehand.... also, hold the new tubes with a cloth or paper towel, as greasy fingerprints can sometimes create "hot-spots" on the tube... which you dont want...
Was there something more specific that you were wondering?

It's an old Sears & Roebuck silvertone (model 1482).
No manual, and I haven't been able to find anything on Google. :-(
What are the chances that if I try to pull/twist them out I will die?
edit-
I really don't know anything about this at all. There are different letters and numbers next to each tube, so I assume that those are sizes or something?

pretty slim on the shockage if its not plugged in and you dont start licking the capacitors... might be hard to find replacements tubes for that amp...
there are 3 types of tubes... preamp tubes, power amp tubes and rectifier tubes.. Youll want to make sure to replace each type with the right kinds... after you yank em out, i'd bring them down to the music shop for more info... in fact, If you're really stumped, just bring the whole thing to em... I'm sure they'd answer any questions you may have....

those numbers should match the tubes you have in your amp.

Phantom Flasher...
Yeah, I'd take it to an amp specialist if I was you... watch him replace em, then do it yourself next time
