    Cheap web hosting??

    hey,

I am making a website for a friend, he wants to upload it to the internet. Now, who is the cheapest web hosting company? i know yahoo geocities does it for $9.95/month which isn't bad, but is there something cheaper?

i guess he just wants to upload it, he doesn't want any "exta features," just something that's reliable.

http://www.northtrex.com is pretty cheap. I bought a package when they had make-your-own hosting package, and it costs $0.60 per month. I don't think they have the make-your-own package anymore though.

Keep in mind, the cheap hosts are much less reliable. My site has been down numerous times, and I still don't trust my e-mail...

I'll be changing hosts to http://www.100for100.com/ once I build a my site, http://www.yeahitis.com/
(Although 100for100 is located in Singapore, they have servers all around the world.)

    Thanks,
    Brendan Benson

    hey,

how about something more reliable? $.60? lol, no wonder it's not very reliable! i guess it's better to pay a little more money and be sure that when people goto your site....it works!

and how can you determine if a hosting company is good/bad? and if it is reliable?

i don't know.....$9.95/mon seems like too much! any good ones out there for like less than $6?

    Thanks,

Ardent hosting seems like a nice place!

just 1 question, for the $3.99 plan they said you can have 15 e-mail accounts, now..does that mean we can choose 15 different e-mail accounts?

    like "whatever@whatever.com"

or does it have to be "whatever@ardenthosting.com"?

    Thanks for link NRD,

Hi I recently bought some hosting with www.brinkster.com $90 for a year, 1 Gig of IIS hosting (means you can run ASP and stream .wmv files) u get 400 pop email accounts, and the support is brilliant u can chat with a rep on there site, i used this a lot when setting up. If I didn't need IISD hosting I would have gone with www.123-reg.co.uk who host for £1.59 a month.

If u have the money go with Brinkster. I'm really happy with the service I got.

hope this helps, the email thing means u can have @yourdomain email acccounts. Like I now have the address nick@srp.me.uk

    Hello Brendan,

This is Charles from Northtrex. You are right you bought a package of $0.60 per month. You were very lucky because we were selling hosting custom packages starting at $3.95 per month but you built a $0.60 package and we did an exception for you. We are not making any money with your account. Now our custom packages starts at $2.00 per month and you have to add $0.50 for every domain you want to host. Offering unlimited domains to the resellers is very dangerous for the server. We limit each of our servers to 400 accounts.

You said your website have been down numerous times
You can take a look at our uptime status on our website and you will see that we have a good uptime :

    Since: 2004-04-29
    Outages: 4
    Uptime: 99.779%

I strongly recommend you to ask 100for100 a screenshot of their uptime stats. You could have a big surprise. Many hosts from outside America and Europe have several short downtimes every month.

I'm currently with media temple, but I would suggest going with http://www.readyhosting.com - $99 a yr and they have a 99.99% up-time. I never had ne probs accessing my hosted files while I was with them (not that I have ne probs with MT).

You forgot the setup fee of $50 : Total for a year $149.00.

I'm wondering why some host charge a setup fee when setting up an account takes 1 or 2 minutes.

go to dreamhost.com, and get the "code monster" package.

It seems like a lot, but you can add 15 domain names for free, i.e. set up clients and charge them whatever you want, even 5 dollars a month(good deal), and you are making money off your hosting after 4-5 clients.
