    on going: test1

hi, i am currently doing the follwoing site:

    ONGOING PROJECT

The site will be a large download, so bear with me at the mo.
The preloader has a lot more graphics to be done and then tweaked.
The main site has mainly the text and info to be put on, but you will get the idea. The external txt takes a little time to load not sure why because its just txt?

again in the begining, so bear in mind with download speed and etc etc. ps best veiwed in full screen or slight scrolling required

    thanks guys

edit: ps the spellings realy bad, missus has yet to check it for me.

    Very Original

I really like the flow of your site. Reminds me of the VH1 back to the 90's type SchoolHouse Rock graphics and stuff.

I like the overall look and feel of the site. It is not immediately discernable what your club is, comedy club or dance club or just a night spot. I figured it was a nite club with some standup or something, but you may want to put a tag line in somewhere.

I like the way you have to utilize the star for the navigation menu.

The only problem I had was that the nav window took a while to come up.

There are some utilities that you can use to compress your swf files once you publish them. Take a look on flashkit, if you cannot find any, let me know, I will send you an email. I use something I got from erain with my other software called optimaze. It does help when you have larger swf files.

Keep me posted as you make changes, I would be happy continue to review your site, you are off to a very good start.

dalan66, than you for your comments. to sav file sie the menu and textsections are all loaded into levels, hence the time. But like you said they can take time, but theres not much really to load so do not understand the time, still looking into this, will let you knw once sorted. The image of the month is a jpeg that i upload so that the clients can easily change that themselves, but also takes time, also the txt is uploaded so that this can be changed by client, still looking into it will let you know once sorted.
When i sort out the problems and the rest i will look into the text etc so it gives it a bit more or a discripion etc.

    once again cheers

Not sure what you removed, the site looks identical, but the load times have increased tremendously. You have more of a flow to your transitions between pages and the navigation menu now appears to work when you engage the star (I know it worked before, but because the time was so disjointed viewers did not realize the star click caused the nav box to appear.)

Also, the big purple numbers are loading much quicker. Nice update to the site. Site is much more reactive and responsive.

Let me know when you make any more changes.

hello, cheers for the comments mate.
a bit confused with the "but the load times have increased tremendously." increased that means it takes Longer???

Basically removed some effects and added plain simple ones, also the main large letters `jesters` etc were originally jpg`s but have now created it in simple type in max itself and then reduced some script etc etc so mostly removed alot of the background of the site rather than the visual....

    will keep you posted.

Sorry about that, I meant to say that there is a tremendous difference in the load times, and the site is now quicker and more responsive.

As you make more changes, keep me posted, would love to continue to assist.

    site gimmicks?

you need gimmicks, toys, eyecandy, more interaction. My innitial thought of your site was a somber "oh" nothing exiting.

    electrik,

I agree that there are times where more eye candy is needed, but I think the design here is going for that late 70's early 80's VH1 disco, roller skating look.

If you do too much, you lose that feel. Good design is a balance.

Just my opinion, not that I am any better than anyone else.

But my mom does say that I am special.
    "It isn't working!"
    "Hmmm...Did you jiggle it!?!"

the design it's self is great.

the design it's self is great. I would add more interaction though. like hover effects on the numbers,I think the page transition background animation is great, but do a little more w/ the foreground, just change a boxes size or position etc. and audio is always a plus. I myself have writen many songs in the genere of acidjazz, house disco, trance, Drum n bass, etc. and I give the web community full rights to use my music as long as I get mention. I don't ask for rights, but that's not to say that I won't if the rights are due. http://www.mp3.com.au/electrikjesus and also http://www.mp3.com.au/jonwest feel free to use.

    cheers both.

i looked into using the numbers as the navigation firstly were when hovering over the number yes it would change colour but also rise up a little as well, but got myself into such a mess and that trying to work it out, so left the whole idea out, but am still considering the change colour thing etc

as for the foreground i still having to think about each section here.

Music i will think about this soon once the site is complete etc, will have look at the link though, cheers

    in reply

the whole changing the numbers to buttons thing shouldn't be all that hard if you change them to sprites w/ an animation of their own. then it's all a mater of placing them and then setting the hover and button states. if you are interested I could probably alter your site source to do just that? if not I will create a demo of how myself.

Hi Welshman, Your main movie is 656k and that is way too big concidering everything you have on it can be done in Swish as a vector graphic using specialty fonts. You could cut your size down to about 10k!! :-) Never use jpegs or gifs which are rasters when you can use a specialty font or draw something in vector.

The look of your site is great. I love the colours. I think if you will duplicate it all using vector you will have it running smooth and it will look great.

Looking forward to seeing what else you are going to put on it!

MsPamela: thanks for the suggestions and compliments.
the large text wording "jesters" was originally jpeg, but did the same effect with the internal text then changed to shape, which did reduce the file a lot. The only main biggezzz is the background there are 5 of them one for each section, i could just do with one but the design would be not as eye pleasing , these were produced in photo shop, with verious effecte etc to produce the image. Do you think this could be done in vector?? Will give it ago, but reduce the background and all should get even better. Other than the numbers as well everything is know done in swishmax itself. Any suggestion etc would be appreciated. As the site is unfinished i am taking my time so i get everything right and the site looks good.

Once again thanks everyone so far.
