    CoreStudios - Per_Design: Feedback needed.

    Hey,

    This is only my 5th post to the board but i have designed my site (try number -> 9877) and i want some feedback on the general layout & sytle.

    I don't pretend to be a designer so if you think it's bad, say so.

    As I always say

    "I'm a Programmer not a Designer, god damn it"

    A bit more information;

    * The web site is going to be programmed in ASP.NET.

    * It's going to be a Flash/MY-SQL/ASP.NET hybrid.

    * It's main job is going to be a place where i can showcase my
    personal programmed software & webpages scripts.

    Anyway Feedback Wanted.

    Thanks

    i really like the layout and style you've got going, it's very smooth.

    very good, especially for a self proclaimed non designer!

    I'd have to say its pretty good coming from a "programmer".
    My only concern in the layout is the 3 marks in the background, my opinion would be to 1.take it out 2.Make the tear more realistic looking 3.Make it consistent with the site as far as the color. The neutral color of the mountain in the backgorund give the site a sense of calmness, its conflicting. Read up on color theory, and if your going to bevel the bottom piece of your company name do the same with the icons. You know funny thing is that when you break it down to the fundamentals graphic designers share the same goal.

    The tear in the background is my logo, how do you think i could make it more realistic. But i'm not keen on changing it as it's the logo that i have been using for about 3 years.

    In the lastest update. I have cut the drop shadow of the tear so it's not leaping out so much. I have cut the "content space" after realised that i was designing the site for my resolution and not everyone runs at 1280x960.

    I have started thinking about how i'm going to display the content and i have just completed the Flash to MYSQL Database links & coding needed.

    yeah that looks better, the 3 gradient placeholders look awesome.But i think the colors conflict with each other. Also the style, you have a rounded edge square with smoth circles but the background has the tear with irregular cuts. Remmeber you want to be consistent. The major problem is the 3 circles with the eye, try taking that out completly to see how it looks.

    Ps. about the tear, if your going to stick with it then leave it how it is. But like i said before look up color theory it can help you out.

    This is a website i designed a couple of months ago.

    Reading up on color theory, the dark red & the background color follows the analogous colors rule. If i add a color inbetween each color i would completely obey this rule.

    Some Formulas for Color Harmony

    There are many theories for harmony. The following illustrations and descriptions present some basic formulas .

    A color scheme based on analogous colors

    Analogous colors are any three colors which are side by side on a 12 part color wheel, such as yellow-green, yellow, and yellow-orange. Usually one of the three colors predominates.

    Well being within the rules is just part of the task. See thats were the graphic designer comes in. You have to train your eye, just because you apply the correct colors on the site you have to lay them out strategically. The tear is not represented well since you only see some of the top and some at the bottom.

    But it catches the users attention because of its placement and color. When i said to read up on color theory i meant to dig deeper then just the definition and technical term. Understanding color representation and why you choose that color and why you placed for instance the eye with the light blue face is what i'm trying to let you see.
