Shape Twen / Motion Tween problem

I must be missing something very obvious.

I have created a movie that draws a box, fills in the box with color and then is supposed to have the menu swoop in from the right. Mind you this is for learnnig, not cosmetic appeal Why is it when I use tweens I get the dotted line versus a solid line in the time line?

If you take a peek at the FLA it is obvious what I am referring to. I must be using the tween function or symbols in an improper manner.

    I have attached the FLA.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Kerry

Unexpected file format! Can't open your .fla.
You'd have a better chance of getting an answer if your .fla was in a MX only format.

You would have to save a copy of your MX2004 .fla, (using Save as...) and changing the Document type to MX only in the Save as... window.

Does this help? I have re-attached in MX format.

If you go inside the symbol base, layer 2 you'll see the issue I am referring to.

    Thanks,

if you want to tween 2 things, ie the two buttons about me and home they have to be on seperate layers, alternitively you make them into a symbol.

the 2nd way is quicker and better unless you want the two buttons comeing form a difffernt place, then you would have to put them on seperate layers.

i did the 2nd way and atached it

To make sure I following the logic here, please remember still learning.

    1. I created the buttons independently.
    2. simply create new graphic symbol and place the buttons in it.

    Correct?

I opened the FLA and could not find how you moved the graphic, containing the buttons, from off screen into position on screen??

    yes that correct,

it would be easier to make the button and convert that to a symbol by selecting it and pressing (Shift+F8).

we all had to learn the basics

o yes and you would have to convert it to a symbol before you did the tweening or indeed inserted a new keyframe because it would only apply to the frame you did it on.
