They do, simply duplicate your symbol, make it a transparency so it is like a shadow, and put it a few pixels under and to the left/right of the original picture.
lol

I know, cool effects like dropshadow, bevels, would be really nice.
and 3d - 4 view - rendering with wireframe would kick a**.
Support for XaraX vector drop shadow and bevel effects. You can export these features to a .swf file but when you inport them, flash turns them into bitmaps.
The drawing tools need to be completly redesigned, more features and easier to use.

Well, the solution for a lot of wishes on this board is quite simple: Use Director 8.5 (in combination with Flash). You will find a fast and powerful language, a great hardware-accelerated realtime3D-Engine, PlugIns, Video-Support, 8 Bit Alpha-Masks, better (but not good!) Sound-Support (but there are great PlugIns for that), ActiveX-Support, Flash-Import and much more.
Unfortunately the Shockwave-PlugIn is very huge and not as widely used as Flash.
And it is a stupid workflow to create Graphics and Animations in Flash, then export, reImport in Director and do the refinement there.
So what I would really like to see is Macromedia melting Flash AND Director into ONE Program (Yes, it would be more expensive than Flash, but hey, its worth the price!).
And, as a second step, the Shockwave-PlugIn MUST be fully integrated in every new Browser-Installation, and should be on every ComputerMagazine's free CD.
Believe me, sacrificing Flash for Director means to get rid of a lot of stupid restrictions. Web-Design would really benefit from such a step. Just think of the possibilities when every Flash-PlugIn on the world would be a Shockwave-PlugIn. It would be coooool.
So please Macromedia, KILL FLASH !
But hey, thats fiction.
Being realistic, there are still some things that could be included in Flash6:
-FIRST OF ALL:
A FASTER PLUG-IN ! Flash is soooo slow, its incredible! Its not just the Graphics rendering, but also the f*****g Actionscript. 15 Years ago my good old Amiga 500 was able to calculate much faster than my 1 GHz machine today when using Flash.
- A Perspective/Distort-Tool (That would help to "fake" 3D)
- Option not to antialise (small) Text
- Embed Fonts in the .fla - File for easier editing on different Computers (Yes, Director can do this)
- 8 Bit Mask-Layers
- A Sound-Sequencer
- PlugIn-System.

better support for xarax imports would be great
a 3d engine would suck though, better to use dedicated tools for that kind of job, i would like to be able to afford the next version of flash thanks.

There should be actionscript commands to allow importation of JPEGS into movie clip placeholders while a movie is being played.
This would aleviate the widely acknowledged limitation of using dynamic content in flash.

My opinion...
hey'all,
here is my wich list for Flash 6...hope, they're gonna hear it... because there's a whole bunch of wiches of everyone here...and I think Macromedia will have decades of work and we won't see all those wiches done in flash until flash 32 !!!
Anyway ..here are the wiches of a webdesigner...(really bad on programming...)
-tips for actionscripts...when you write a code...If there's a simpliest (and less heavier)...flash should propose it !
-3d and Flash text (all what plug-ins can make) included !
-Advanced control for loops... We should say...play this loop for a thousand times...then add this one into the second loop...all in one frame (perhaps it's already done...but I haven't seen it yet !!!
-More interactivty with illustrator...more especially with the strockes !!!! (i know i should use freehand...then my wish will be exausted !!! but nobody's perfect!)
-Lots of smartclips !!
-easy-integrated email forms!!!!
-...that's all i see for now !!!
-Flash 5 is incredible...but keep in mind that flash is a product designed for graphic designers at first...don't turn it into a complete programming stuff !
Keep up the good work !!

I want a feature that can pick the 6 winning numbers on the national lottery on a quadruple rollover week. I'd then by spurs, and merge them with barnet, they could have probably held a 3-0 lead against Man utd.

TEKNISION WISHLIST::::
1/ ABILITY TO EMBED A FONT AND NOT ANIT-ALIAS IT!
2/ ALLOW ACTIONSCRIPT TO AFFECT OBJECTS ON MASK LAYERS
3/ EXTENSIBILTY LAYER LIKE DREAMWEAVER. MAINLY TO EXTEND THE ACTIONS WINDOW. (I HAVE A PILE OF CUSTOM OBJECTS I WOULD LIKE TO PUT IN THE ACTIONS WINDOW, BUT NO. GOT TO USE STUPID INCLUDE EVERY TIME.
4/ ACTIONSCRIPT ON LIBRARY OBJECTS LIKE DIRECTOR
5/ WHEN YOU DRAG A FOLDER OF SYMBOLS FROM ONE FLA TO ANOTHER, PLEASE MAKE THE FOLDER APPEAR IN THE NEW FILE WITH THE FILES IN IT.
6/ DYNAMIC TEXTFIELDS IN WHICH ACTIONSCRIPT CAN CHANGE THE WIDTH OF.
6/ DEFINITE ABILITY TO LOAD JPG AND GIF IMAGES ON THE FLY! THIS IS A MUST! GENERATOR IS TOO EXPENSIVE FOR JUST THIS SIMPLE FUNTIONALITY!
7/ A CROP TOOL
8/ TARGET PATH ACTION THAT RETURNS THE PATH NOT AS A STRING!
9/ A DOM LIKE JAVASCRIPT. HAVE AN ARRAY THAT IS ACCESSABLE THAT WILL ALLOW ACCESS TO ALL OBJECTS WHETHER YOU KNOW THE NAME OR NOT.
10/ FSCOMAND ("save","file.txt") THAT WORKS ON MAC!
11/ IS THERE ANYWAY TO GET THE FLASH PLAYER TO UTILIZE VIDEO HARDWARE? NEEDED BY MAC PEOPLE.

Teaming up!
I don't know, i guess the two big design company should join up! Iam talking about Adobe and Macro, Photoshop and flash in one kinda deal!! I think you get half of the screen to work with flash and the other half to design, do graphixs touch ups and so on. Just an idea, don't look at me all crazy now.

Hello. I'm a Flash Teacher located in Quebec City and here's my wish list to
make Flash a better tool, and more understandable by students.
Wish List for Flash 6.0
By Sébastien Allard, nolinrash@hotmail.com
- A Crop Tool to redimensionate the stage at will.
- The possibility to animate the rotation center of an instance.
- The possibility to rotate the Guides (not the Motion Guides).
- Sub-layers (like in Photoshop 6 and Illustrator 9).
- The Possibility to duplicate a layer easily (suggestion : a button next to
add Guide Layer).
- Changing the basic color of the Symbols timelines or a different look for
these timelines (student always get confuse by the multiple timeline thing).
- The possibility to change the Main Toolbar from vertical to horizontal.
- The possibility to change the easing of an animation with Bézier curves in
a graphic (much like in Combustion or 3dsmax).
If it's cool, it's certainly Flash!

Here are some of my main wishes for Flash 6:
1. Faster performance.
2. Much better editor:
a. It shouldn't slow down to a crawl when my script gets longer than 1000 lines. (To deal with that I have resorted to dividing up my script into multiple layers.)
b. Need to have a shift-left/shift-right ability. As it is now, when I have more than a few lines to shift over I usually copy it to BBEdit, shift it, than copy back to Flash.
3. Much better debugger. The debugger is so buggy that I stopped using it many months ago. It doesn't give accurate/complete listings of array elements etc. Also I would love it to have stop-points like the Lingo debugger.
4. Ability to read/write from/to the local disk, as in Lingo.
5. Some kind of 3D engine.

Has anyone has a look at Koan? - http://www.sseyo.com
It is an app & plugin that can make incredibly small audio files.. kinda like they way flash works for vector art, but for audio.
I think integrating this plugin with the new flash 6 one would open up a lot of new possibilities for audio & flash..
lets face it, the audio side is probably the weakest part of flash...

music MOD support
OK adding MP3 support to Flash was a long over due feature but still music files in flash still take up huge amounts of data. So there could be support for?
MIDI - Ugh maybe not as most midi music sounds like an 80s Euro Pop band gone very wrong.
MOD - The mod file format started way back in the early 80's and allows you to make music files and full songs in a fraction of the memory. At the moemnt most popular MP3 players support it. Like WinAMP and Sonique. And there are 100000's of free to use MOD sond out there. Best of all a raw MOD player in C code (just to play a mod file nothing else) can be coded in under 4k! And as far as I know the file format is free!
Have a look yourself at http://wuarchive.wustl.edu/~aminet/dirs/tree_mods.html and try a few out and look at the size of some of the songs. Some are just a few k and will last for 30 seconds or more. Others under a meg and a full 5mins.
Just my 2 pence worth...

A couple ideas.
First of all, while the Flash 5 interface requires you to be a little more comfortable with ActionScripting, in the end it is far superior to the Flash 4 interface. You should probably get used to it.
I would like to be able to hilight a section of code and indent/outdent it with the click of a button. Wouldn't that be cool?
And HTML support. HTML in Flash, not vice versa.

preliminary summary...
Wow just like christmas! And I know you MM peeps are out there lookin, so better get busy on the cut'n paste
all right I'm just gonna let it flow as it comes to mind here. I have been using flash for quite a while, and these
are own wishes plus modifications of other posts.
Thanks, Mark, for posting the topic. Had to come at some point...
There is no ranking system in my wishes/comments.
1.I don't care about built-in swish and echoes in the audio dept. phuggthat. Swish should get their **** together
and start exporting .as files instead. A plug-in environment could be dope, however. Kindof like what MM thought
they would achieve with their 'extensions', which hasn't shown much feedback. But what are people thinking? A
plug-in envirnoment? For what? Sure drop-shadow and the more simple ones would be nice features. This is not about
tweaking effect-buttons but doing the maths.
Right on, sonwah...why not a friggin little guide like ms-office to take you by the hand !!?? lol
2. an internal 'smartclip-style' configurable variable-ticker that can monitor selected/all variables in your movie
somewhere outside or inside of the stage. or maybe in an external window. - better debugger.
3. ability to change the font-size of the output-window
4.a keyshortcut to drag the alpha of selected mc's straight to zero (or chosen value) - well basically macro's
similar to the photoshop 'action' palette for repeated tasks.
5.A FIX FOR THE PHUGGDUP PLAYER FOR MAC! (important, it sucks pretty bad. agree everyone?) - How about a
(transparent) bug-feedback agent back to MM. In general people on this topic are asking for a faster player. I must
agree. How about some testing for different cpu's as for bandwidths.
6. gradient from color to transparency (eg. of underlying layer).
7. more accurate soundclip parameters (down to milliseconds); looping marks, timestretch (not that hard to make).
8. no-anti-aliasing option in html embedding. In general, better html support. say, css -?
9. skew
10. full folder tree in the library
11. extended masking-connectivity to mc/scripting. About time.
12. duplicate layer -
13. and layer folders!! Important.
14. fscommand support for mac. not MM, i know.
15. ability to use negative numbers with POW() (jezze)
16. auto-save, i guess or some back up option
17. ability to set quality for individual MC's (through an action, even, of course)
18. i find the use of space on the screen important. I use the panel sets quite a bit. Kind of like how you have
the choice of expert and normal in the scripting, A more compact, or even realtime drag-drop of
functionalitites/buttons. Relevant if you're on a single monitor. And there again; macros...
19. LOL HA "Make it even more complex and difficult so I can charge even more!!! Ha! $$$!!!". Cool, 'borny'...
20. sizable stage on the page is a great idea, if possible
21. font embedding. About time.
22. I pretty much agree with everything elevader2 mentions in his 1st post.
23. angular guides (/guide-layers)
24. mp3pro/wma support. -great formats.
25. dynamically importing images (like loadMovie but load .gif / .jpg into a movieclip) (great, little ben) and
bility to crop
26. ability to swap all selected instaces on a layer
27. direct accesibility to the (neat) .as reference section from the .as window
Aight that's it for now. Don't bother anymore now. There might be more.
Feel free to drop me a mail - ahesse@hotmail.com
peace

I hope flash 6 will be....
1) able to save swf files as fla files and editing them
2) able to have lines of different thickness
3) able to draw 3d graphics and words
4) able to drag and turn a movie 360 degrees and reveal all its faces without AS.
that would be all 4 now.....

Umm... why don't you check out the stroke panel

-
i wanna know why there is so many people in this thread with 0 posts
it doesnt make sense
-
It's creepy... its like the posting dead...

-
also like to see:
additional menu items eg:
under the edit menu, a 'delete designers block' button
under the file menu, a 'open - mind of client' button
also under the edit menu, a 'copy - 2advanced' button would save alot of people some time.
and an inspiration button on the tool bar would be useful.
I've tried to advise macromedia of these additions but they don't seem to be returning my calls.
