Many parts of the site is not made in Flash ( After Effects is a good guess ).

In Flash you use Modify>Shape>Soften Fill Edges to make glows or dropshadows.
Select your shape and try it few times to get the hang of how it works.

    aah, thank you so much.

do you recommend doing most design in flash or is it good to bring photoshopped stuff in too? sometimes i am having trouble with the pixels on the edges showing when i bring a picture i made in photoshop over to flash with a transparent back ground. any tips on how to clean up the image for the edges? i get some white pixels scattered on the outline of my images. again thanks for the help!

Clean the edges in photoshop with a black bakground ( or a contrasting color ) sou you'll see that you get rid of everything.

Save as png-24 as it supports 256 levels of alpha os oppesed to a gif's either on or off.

It depends on the graphics. It can be hard to mix both Flash and PS graphics. I usually use only Flash or only PS.

You can do a lot of graphics in flash although natural bevels is very hard.

thanks alot for your info, you have been great help!

if i wanted to create a shadow effect on a rectangle, would i use the same "soften fill edges" technique on another layer and move it below the rectangle? or is there another way to make the shadow effect? also for a glowing effect on text, it seems that the soften fill edges is not available, is there an alternate way to make text glow?

I copy my shape to a layer beneath , change color to a half transparent black and do the soften fill edges there ( like you ).

Text has to be concerted to vectors ( shapes ) first. Modify>Breal Apart ( twice ).

Its not working well with type though ( youll notice ). It depends a lot on how the letters look.

For some things its better to add the shadow in PS and save as a png.
