site check new business
Can you guys comment on the site i've been working on recently. Its more html then flash but I was trying to keep things simple.
http://www.texcite.com
Two things that I know are wrong...contact rollover is not the right color and traon in the portfolio is not linked right.
So what do you guys think?

Congratulations. That's whats called a
website these days. Might want to
coment on that?
About your site. You said you wanted to
keep it simple than I'd suggest you skip
on the flash header too. It sits there
trying to look important while in fact
it doesn't add any value to the site.
I'm also no big fan of the boxed layout.
It's so... boring. Try to work on an
imaginable grid to align your content
and release your content.
Maybe you should also consider your
site's width. Homepage looks ok
(2 columns) but the other pages have the
text displayed over the complete width
of the site. Better keep it in smaller
columns for easy reading like I just did
in my post.
Good luck.

To Sense.
This is a flash forum, for flash stuffs, I am only interested of flash stuff when I read posts here. When I want to check html stuff I go read in html forums. Look at my sites, I have 0% html of those I show in my threads in these forums.

Even though sites today have both flash and html doesnt mean I give a flying...

Flashkit exists for many years now and probably realised that it needed to broaden it's horizon to keep up to date with todays industry. Webdesign isn't all about flash. Flash is merely a tool used to create -compelling- user experiences wich also involve html, back-end scritping, video or other media. Flashkit did grow through the years but the name staid as it was.
If flashkit limited itself to flashonly websites and took it that strict we'd be critisising tweening squares and talking characters in here.
I mean, get real and before you post those lame replies in every possible html-sitecheck thread you might want to broaden your vision towards webdesign too.

Thanks sense. That was what I was looking for. I'll try some of the suggestions you have made.
I didn't really want to reply to the other poster because people have their own views on what they like and don't like. And I didn't really want to turn this into a flame war. Besides if google posted in a sitecheck forum. They would get something like "Whats to say its just a search box and a submit button", that doesn't mean the design doesn't work. I think its one of the most successful designs ever.
Anyway I'll be updating it over the next couple of days and post back here.

the site is simple... nothing fancy...
and btw... i HATE sites aligned to the left or right! why can't it be centered ?
general: "good work" ;]
-
ok I made a lot of updates and changed the design a bit. What do you guys thing?
I didn't really want to center it because I feel it looks better left aligned.

i can't see any difference... and it's still aligned to left (

gotta agree with sense and wbwd 100%. usually sites are always centered if not then they have some sort of content on the opposite side. def try to work with a grid b/c i dont see a consistent grid patten, there is one but some of the alignments in some pages are off. have you thought about adding a texture? maybe to the bg to give the site more depth but like sense said, keep it simple. in the banner animation, i dont get why u have the sudden flashy/movement of the "texcite" logo or wutever it is, doesnt go with the site at all. for that type of movement, i would expect to see more aniamtion in the rest of the site plus it doesnt go with the smooth fade in of the picture. instead of fast movement and harsh blinking (thats wut i saw), just simply fade the text in, it would fit better with the design and theme of the site. instead of underlined links, try using a colored link (bring out the purple/blue that you have in the navigation)and if u want to add flash into this without overdoing it, add a very simple fade in/out for ur buttons but like many say "less is more" - hope this helps.
