XBOX or Playstation 2 ?

So I have heard mixed reviews all over the place from the "really cool XBOX Live" feature being enabled now on so many games to the utmost horrible reviews of the system.

If you could buy either system what would you choose and WHY? Also the Xbox live subscription thing seems pretty hot. I saw one of my buddies playing Halo 2 and he was playing with 2 peeps from Japan and one other chap from London. Pretty tight when it's all broadband connected. There is literally no delay and the excitement was definitely there. Then again, PS2 has so many games out there and the selection is surely present.

id personaly go with a ps2 for teh simple fact that you know the next gen console will be backwards compatable, so even if teh selection isnt upto par, you will still have games from ps1 and ps2 available where as im not so sure about xbox2.

We have both and the Xbox is used less and less. Personally I'd buy a PS2 just so I can play GTA, but there are also some fantastic racing games as well. Oh and Crash Team Racing. The only game I've played on the Xbox is Halo, and it's all right - but I'll prefer the PS2 any day.

I have both. The only reason I play the PS2 is for Grand Theft Auto.

Most games that I play are made for both XBOX and PS2, so I always buy the XBOX version because the graphics are better each and every time.

That is true, the Xbox graphics are really fantastic.

It would be sad if that would not be the case for an over one year newer technology ... but if you've seen GT4, than you know that the difference is'nt really there if a good developer found out how to code the PS2.

I have an xbox and happy with it. Halo 2 and Live is a combination hard to beat. Also the newest GTA will come to xbox eventually. Looking forward to Forza Motorsport. Hopefully it will fill the small gap in xbox driving games (I don't like PGR2).

get the same programmers of GT4 on the XBOX subby, and your analogy might hold water.

but until Polyphony changes their "sony only" rule, it won't happen.

but the games where the same developers worked on the XBOX, the graphics are better.

the screen shots I have seen of gt4 put it behind the screen shots I have seen of forza.

but screen shots are often misleading.

playstation controller is way better than any other console in my opinion.. you can hold it like ten different ways.. I have the first gen ps2. my bro has an xbox just for halo 2. I have the ps2 for metal gear solid. ps2 is nice because it can fit in a lot more places and vertical too.. x box is a little bigger.

It's not out of context. If you want to compare screenshots of a game, you need to know the fps of the game as well. Forza screenshots can only look that good because they run the game with half as many frames per second as GT4 and so have two times as much processor time to calculate one frame aka screenshot.

Either way, a game can still look and play better at 30fps than 60fps.

The only thing that should affect your decision would be the games. What type of games do you like? Shooters, sports, rpgs, fighting, platformer...? Or are there specific games you just need to have?

I bought ps2 for its rpgs and a couple other things that are only for ps2. Don't make your decision based on graphics though. That's the last thing you really need to consider.

You'll get over the graphics much faster than you'll get over crappy gameplay, so seriously just look at the games.

This is really true, because sometimes the screenshots provided to game sites and posted on websites will not be from actual gameply on the game system. I forget what they're actually called, something like hi-res still shots. Basically you'll never end up seeing on your tv.

Yeah, what they do is calculate (with the game-engine) the screenshot at much higher resolutions and then they downsample it to the normal res what results in much better "screenshots". Both Forza and GT4 have such shots circulating.
