    Interactive Campus Map

hello FK crew. Im a recent geography graduate of Salisbury University in MD, USA specializing in cartography/GIS. I am have basically self taught myself html and flash so a part of an independent study I created a interactive flash map of the campus. It is in the process of becoming the official campus map, and i wanted the true constructive criticisms of flash professionals on design and functionality, mainly functionality. I appreciate all comments and thanks for taking the time to view the site.

Im not a flash pro but I can tell you the Map looks very good and works even better. I would make the gray text BLACK, i know it turns black on mouse-over, but the text under BUILDING SYMBOLS is hard to read.

Other then that, I like it! good job!

Very nice, well built and straight forward. The design fits well on the functionality itself. Goodwork there.

Hmmm... you know something? When something is so well done as this, there is usually no critiques, just kind words... That's what we all expect, and that's what any designer/developer should strive for.

And your job is REALLY well done!

thanks alot abelius.... All of my flash and html work is mostly self taught... my cartography principles are of course supported by my degree.... I began doing web design about 2 years ago.... this is a link to the very first internet mapping page i did ( http://geoweb.salisbury.edu/website/1877/viewer.htm )... this was using a software called ArcIMS.... specifically designed for GIS/mapping applications.... I fell in love with the field... and have strived to better myself and my abilities ever since... and with comments like what you said.... I will surely continue to do so....

Great work mate. I mostly agree with Abelius & SavageSun, but did notice a thing/two:
    - small text is pretty illegible
    - fade out/in transitions are a bit slow
    - rounded rectangle edges are distorted (convert lines to fills can usually take care of that)

this is exactly what I wanted to do!

I'm at a university that has a lousy map system; you have to know where something is to find it. Excellent!

Once tiny thing. The 'map help' key:
WHere it says map help, I expect to click on those words for some kind of lengthier text explanation or demo. And as the icons below change as you mouseover, it's disappointing when they do nothing. Finally, I'm torn about whehter I like the automatic zoom to the building you select -- I may initially need to see it on a macro level, relative to everything else.

    Outstandinig work!

    thanks for the replies guys....

i was really stumped for quite some time about how to present a help section.... i feel its definitely necessary... but maybe not on the map map page... i should be a link of somesort to another window maybe.... idk... ill need to brainstorm a little on this...

i figured that the "quick-click navigation" would be nice for those users that may know the name of the building that they are looking for, but dont know where it is...
