Open them in MX and save them. Flash MX (or MX 2004) will save in MX format by default and tell you that you are saving the Flash 5 files in the new format and ask if that's OK.

    MX TO MX 2004

I just fund that there is.

    flash 5
    Flash MX (version 6)
    Flash MX 2004 (version 7)

    Right??

And I think the files that I want to convert is made in flash MX (version 6)!

I made the flash files in the sommmer last year (used a lot of hours) and now I cant open them!!

I have now reinstalled my pc and have the new verions of flash... and dont have the old version anymore... is there any posibility to safe my work and go on with it?? in other word to convert it to the new format??

    Lasse

ps: maybe the answar is that I schould get the old version of flash (version 6) and resave the files. I have tryed to find version 6 of flash, NO luck!! Any ideas??

    Yes:
    Flash 5
    Flash MX (version 6)
    Flash MX 2004 (version 7)

But Flash 7 should be able to open the older files. It's the other way around that doesn't work (trying to open version 7 files in version 6 or 5).

Just as an experiment, before you go to too much trouble, you could ask someone who has version 6 to try opening one of your files, just to see if that works.

If not, the problem is something else.

I still have a copy of 6 running. If you'd like to post (or send direct) one of your smaller FLA files, I'll see if I can open it.

Sorry. I was unable to open it with Flash 6 or 7 for Mac or Flash 6 for Windows. The Windows version reported "unknown file format" which may indicate that the file is corrupted.

There's another possibility here. It could be that there are actually some incompatibility problems in opening MX files with MX 2004 that just haven't been widely reported. I don't know.

I may also have some suggestions for recovering at least part of your work if you can't get the files open normally.

I am from that other thread.
Let me ask you this, was your MX 6 file made in an
    acedemic version?
Or did you try to open it with an academic version?
