    Themed Photography :: Week 5 :: SHADOWS

Good submissions in week 4, even though things are slowing down a bit around here. Great job tonytryout, littleMatt, and Happy Pixel. Let's try to get some more involvement this week.

I have yet to see submissions by a few people in the Arena.......you know who you are. Don't make me call you out, I just might have to use your first name.

This week the theme is SHADOWS. They are everywhere, so grab that camera and capture the darkness in the light. BE CREATIVE!

    As always, the Ru|3z:
    • This is NOT a PhotoShop battle it is a photography battle. Only slightly touched up photos may be submitted.
    • Let's keep the file and image size under FK guidelines (under 700 px wide).
    • All photographs must be related to the current weekly theme.
    • Photographs must be taken by the idividual posting (no stealing photos).
    • Use any camera (ie. cellphone, point-and-shoot, disposable) just submit!
    • Multiple submission are welcomed.
    • Photos must be no more than a week old. Take some NEW pictures people!

Have fun, get creative, post as often as you like.

The only thing I can see is that you used too much JPEG compression. That caused the picture to pixelate and look blurred.

PhotoShop is to digital photography as the development process is to film photography. The use of some touchup in PhotoShop is not frowned upon here. A slight shift in the contrast and a saturation bump could help bring out those shadows. Just be carefull with the lighted portions of the grass, they may wash out too much.

Post more gesteves, you've got a good style.

Yeah, that picture didn't come out as I wanted it to. A little earlier, the shadows were all around the tree stump, but the sunlight still hit it, so the stump really stood out, but then I slipped and fell down the hill while taking the picture, ruining it (and my pants and shirt, too). By the time I took the second picture, the shadows had already moved

I'll try to work a little more with it, and repost.

I was having lunch with the wife on the back porch today and was reminded of this thread when I saw the shadow of the banana trees on the birdbath.
This is one of the better shots my little 2 megapixel Fuji has taken.

Legal Disclaimer: I used Fireworks to adjust the levels and deepen the tones and then slightly blurred the grass to make the birdbath stand out more.

i LOVE this one. not just the shadows, but the natural/earthy texture of the wood looks cool contrasting with the dead straight lines of the banisters(?).

and the landscape in the distance fits in well too. i really really like this picture.

and if that's where you live, i'm jealous

    Wow.....very impressive stuff here.

Nords, you had me out on my deck this morning:

it just got done raining this morning and everything is a mess, I should be embarassed.

Not sure about this one, it just spoke to me though:

I think I'll be posting again before the end of this week's theme.

    I totally agree.

DavidP that image fits in nicely. I had to look at that image for a good 30 seconds before I realized that brown palm was NOT a pillar.

    Keep 'em coming!!
