Themed Photography :: Week 9 :: MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

Wow, gobs of creativity this week!! Submitted were great self portraits from tiGRAN=-2001 (very interesting), alty29 (erm ), MechaPiano (diggin' those pants), Happy Pixel (illusionary...is that a word?), gerbick (inkoriffic!), Frets (double poster - thanks), Ghostgirl705 (can I get away with 'rwowl' again?), skill_guy101 (that IS a great tie), and ctranter (scanneriffic!!).

Well, I went ahead and opened up a can of worms with my photo of me and my guitar. There was an uprising in the asylum, so by popular demand this week's theme will be MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS.

this does NOT have to be your instrument (though it is prefered), it can be a favorite, an envied, your first, a friends, your local music store....whatever. Try to think outside of the box and get some interesting captures.

I look forward to seeing evryone's work.

    As always, the Ru|3z:
    • This is NOT a PhotoShop battle it is a photography battle. Only slightly touched up photos may be submitted.
    • Let's keep the file and image size under FK guidelines (under 700 px wide).
    • All photographs must be related to the current weekly theme.
    • Photographs must be taken by the idividual posting (no stealing photos).
    • Use any camera (ie. cellphone, point-and-shoot, disposable) just submit!
    • Multiple submission are welcomed.
    • Photos must be no more than a week old. Take some NEW pictures people!

Have fun, get creative, post as often as you like.

    A few stylistic hints....

You don't need to be in the photo itself.
an instrument set against a wall is always a poor display.
Think about your background as well as the foreground.
Your not shooting for some retailer you don't have to show
the entire instrument. Web cams make ecellent macro camera's
Play around with the light either by moving the object or the lights.
You can get some fairly dramatic effects using window light.
Avoid using a flash If you do you may wish to use a polarizer filter
to cut down on glare. Not all intruments need to be displayed as
"pretty" try and bring out as much character as you can.
Bracket your fstops. depth of focus falls away very quickly at lower settings you can control softness/sharpness more fully in camera
    then via photo editing software.
Zoom settings.... Just like in portrature having too wids angle a lens tends to push out objects in the foreground. (people tend to
appear as they have bigger noses then they actually do)
Don't put the subject dead center in your composition.

I'm digging out my camera this should be fun.

Hate to nitpick, but why the additional "stylistic hints"? Quite redundant. Take a look at the past, Frets.
