    preloading external flvs

    OMG!

I have searched and searched the web to find a way to preload external flash video files, to no avail.

I have tried contacting macromedia and every other flash video website out there also to no avail.

If ANYONE knows how to do this please let me know, the client wants the finished product by the end of the day, and I cantt find a way to do it.

Other than the preloader the swf with externally linked video is all working great... just need something in there for the user to look at while the thing is loading.

    Cheers

How big is the flv? Is it for 56K people or hi-speed connections?

Why not just stream it? No load time.

If your on hi-speed, look at this, see how long it takes to begin playing.

If it's for slow speed people, you might as well put it in an swf and add a preloader.

    thanks iaskwhy,

Yea, I have 6 flv that are approx 1.9mb each,

I did have it steeaming but the client has some pretty unreasonable requests like he needed it masked as there was some stuff in the bg then there was the ol' buffering thing, he requires something to be happening rather than just looking at the first frame
I dont know man, like I said the swf/ menu is all working just not the "buffering" thing needs to be put in.

However I have offishally given up

    Cheers for the suggestioin....

Did it take my link long to start playing? That's 19Mb. Only works on hi-speed tho. Starts right away on cable.

Nah, Im on 100mbps cable so it wasnt bad atall,
However I am still having trouble getting this to work, like I said I do actually have it working but without the buffering/streaming indicator at the start of the flv.

Jeez I didnt realise that this would be such a mission to find mthe code or a fix

But thanks for the comments iaskwhy, you're the only person in the world that has attempted to help me

But still need that buffering/progress thing to work

Unfortunately my client doesnt seem to understand the way flv streams without indicators, such as "buffering video" or whatever...

I am still lost and have this thing done by the morning, haha, and its already 9pm here in New Zealand

Well, here's the fla for that movie on my site. But as far as I know, there is no preloader to show loading. You might be able to put some sort of movie clip loop saying loading, please wait, under the video object, then when it starts, it just covers it up? Haven't tried it myself.

    Thanks iaskwhy,

I did get it sorted ... eventually but I'll have to have a look at you fla and we'll see if I can come up with another solution

Still need to get the "buffering" thing sorted as even though it says it is

    Oh well client is happy

Doesnt seem to matter to much now

    Thanks agaon for the help
