Do You Still Use WWW ?

Ok, kind of an informal poll / discussion.

When designing an ad / identity / layout whatever....
do you put www. in front of the company web site (www.companyurl.com)?
    or just companyurl.com?

Some of my clients want the www, sometimes I leave it out and they don't say anything, sometimes it works with a design as far as balance... but just wondering what you FK'ers do or think.

I just saying the domain plus ".com" A lot easier for them to remember, and a bit catchier. The whole "www." part is just too cumbersome.

not unless the client makes a big fuss about it.

I had one that demanded that I even include the http:// in front of it as well ... on business cards and everything. I had to freakin' redesign the entire card due to that and it ended up looking like total and complete dung.

Oh well ... I laughed all the way to the bank. Haven't worked with them since thank goodness ... although they did send me a nice cheese knife set a few years ago around Christmas (a good two years after I worked on it for them) ... wtf?!?.

www is the only accronym that takes 3 times longer to say than what it stands for!
^final proof that you should drop the www part!

i do for most of my large publications which have multiple (sometimes 100 websites), yeah,it's a bit of a pain, but i know when im on the phone with 'certain' people and i say "go to your browser and type in google.com" ..the most common reply is "www?".

So, yeah, i use it, but i try to stay away from it with smaller designs/ads. It keeps things more balanced and easier to read without the www.

It's probably a good idea to use it in designs. People's eyes pick up the 'www' quick when scanning a business card or contact page. We've all heard it so many times it's probably a mnemonic device by now, prepping our minds for not necessarily a company name, but a url with a hyphen or a .net at the end. (Kind of like how you read phone numbers with a pattern: 111--222--33-33).

I'm more likely to remember URLs spoken over the radio if the reader prefixes it with www.

It wouldn't hurt to check the url without the www prefix. If the webserver's configured wrong it might not work without it.

    Case in point:
    youarethequarry.net vs. www.youarethequarry.net

Other than that, yes ctrl+enter, always.

Interesting. I agree it probably has more that effect than what has been suggested as being cumbersome or whatever... I think you are right about that. You don't look at it and read W, W, W, unless you are Larry's other brother Larry or something.

Sometimes if I am centering it in a design I feel it almost requires www to balance the dots. But that may be a cue that I need to organize it differently.
