    Paypal and downloads

Hi everyone, I'm thinking about selling some plugins, components and other digital media online. Paypal is looking like the best way for me to take transactions right now, but I still don't know have to deliver the product. Ideally right after the transaction is verified the user should receive the product. Is anyone on here doing this now or has any advice that I might not be thinking of. I could always send by email but there would be a delay. Thanks.

    - Ben

I'm really not looking to invest to much time or money into this.

You want Paypal IPN (instant payment notification)

    https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/websc...-intro-outside

Do a search, there are some scripts out there that will do this for you.
    try www.hotscripts.com

PayPal has a shopping cart and will send you email notification when you have a sale. You can set up rules in your email, Outlook or OE to auto respond with an email that is sent to the buyer with a link to the download.

Here is a link on how to set up rules in your Outlook mail.
    http://www.i-resign.com/uk/resignati...outlookexp.asp

And here is the info on the PayPal Shopping cart:

The PayPal Shopping Cart is based on simple HTML code. Here's how it works:

    Implementation:
Enter the details of each item you wish to sell into PayPal's item form
PayPal will generate custom HTML code for each item you wish you sell
Copy the HTML code and paste it into your webpage files next to each respective item

This code will result in Add to Cart buttons on your web pages
Additionally, PayPal will provide you HTML code for a shopping cart icon to place in the upper right-hand corner of your webpages. This icon will link your buyers to their carts.

    The Shopping Experience:
Buyers on your website will click the Add to Cart buttons next to each item they wish to purchase

The Add to Cart buttons will launch a mini-browser hosted by PayPal. This page will display the contents of their PayPal Shopping Cart, including: each item's name, number, quantity, and price. It will also include the shipping, handling and total

From this mini-browser, your buyers can change the quantity of an item, delete an item from the cart, continue shopping, or check out

If a buyer clicks Continue Shopping, she will be taken back to your site. She can return to her cart by clicking the Shopping Cart icon or by clicking Add to Cart to purchase another item. If a buyer clicks Check Out, she will be taken through the PayPal payment flow

    A Purchase Is Made:

When your buyer completes payment to you:

The funds will be instantly credited to your account
You will receive an email notification
The buyer will receive an email receipt
    Receive Instant Payment Notifications
The details of the transaction will appear in both your history log and your buyer's history log, if the buyer is a PayPal member
    Download your Shopping Cart details

Zakp0, that sounds perfect for what byokitis was looking for! Except, I don't know if he will like the price! I made a note of the link also.
    Thanks!

I used Charon Cart for shopping basket (really easy to use) and also the WebAssist PayPal facility -- see http://www.webassist.com/home.asp (just to make it easier to add standard PayPal assets). Re IPN, you need to register with PayPal Developer Network to obtain an integration guide with sample code, examples, etc. Registration is free.

    Everything mentioned above is free.

maybe I am wrong but is this thread not supposed to be in Backend & Scripting?

Also did I mention they are free?

I wouldn't say you're wrong, really, Tony... just a little un-right... that sounds better! Just kidding.

I would agree with you, only it also fits here as a "business solution". If it gets too deep into the coding side, I'll split it off to the B&S forum.

    Jay.
