    What A Pathetic Life...

Our local cable subsidiary of Charter had one of it's main fibre trunks cut today by some construction worker. It's still acting wierd and has me all fidgetty, like a cat with lice. Couldn't go online most of the day, except for a short time this afternoon, when it came in for about 20 minutes, then cut out again.

I seriously need to get out and away from this desk for awhile. I see no difference between this addiction and something like hard drugs. It's demeaning to find yourself in a situation like that.

This kind of thing is all through the American lifestyle dream. TV is no doubt as bad, maybe worse, since the content is worse. Gamers too. My brother is so involved in Doom 3, that he almost doesn't talk anymore, he grunts when you ask a question or say something. It's like he isn't there.

So as soon as I get caught up on my e-mail and answer a few posts, I'm taking a break.

I'll be back at 7pm, after the McNeil News Hour is done.

Pretty messed up. The digital revolution is robbing humanity from genuine social interaction. I wouldn't be surprised if in a decade or so people will have serious phobias with face to face communication.

But I'm right there with a lot of us when internet is down I start freakin' out.

I use the internet as the greatest research tool ever devised. Where else can I get local knowledge of where to rent a car or hotel room in New Caledonia in less then 3 minutes.

I had to call repair just a couple weeks ago. The guy gave me a new modem and tweeked the signal outside where it comes out of the box. It was giving me fits before that, then it was grand, till this happened today.

For the most part, my connection has been very good for years now, and fast, 3Mbps and going to 5 soon with 512 upload speeds.

But it's a shocker to realize how dependant I am on this thing. Not sure if it will matter whether we have phobias about meeting other people face to face, since it will probably happen less and less the more people get plugged in. We just won't meet face to face anymore.

We're going to need legislation to keep some people offline though. Like the cable repair guys and Pizza delivery boy for sure, or we're all going to die.

admedia, i see you were also trapped into the world of small avatars!

there is something creepy about becoming a pale blob, staring at screens in the dark with a cola-filled, mini-keg in hand. but, i cant hate it too much since its also my livelihood. and bad tv has gotten worse but good tv has gotten better. documentaries have come a long way.

I was wondering if that was part of the strategy.

Make the boards go down... then they will come back wanting it more

Tenured members should have access to that board, whether they are mods or not.

I think that was actually Planet's idea. Then that new 'boxer' ad would be more acceptable.

geeez...freeking out because your internet connection breaks

I work online and I reckon you are lucky...I fantasize daily about shooting my computers, jumping in my car and heading for a deserted beach in North West Australia, where my day is filled with driftwood collection for that night's fire, and the sound of migrating birds.

...and any sort of mobile communication is just impossible.

I quit using computers as a job, and a hobby for a long time. I am glad I can walk away from a computer and not feel jittery about it.

On a side note I cant seem to spend more than 30 minutes at a time now in front of the computer. I am much more relaxed as a result

wooooooot go me, no comcast on my speed dial,
