    A bit tricky...

... hi, I'm a bit lost with an effect I first thought was pretty simple. I attached a picture that shows three images, all of them framed by a rectangle with smooth edges and shaded borders. Does anyone have an idea how these frames are created? Maybe any tuts online?
    THX in advance!

Seems like just a inner Shadow with the distance on 0 in Photoshop.

Thanks for replying (LOVE your website!)

...I was thinking of two layers, the first one holding the bitmap, the second one as a mask featuring rounded edges and the inner shadow effect. It's just that I've never really worked with Photoshop CS before and feel a bit lost... Can anyone provide a detailed description on how to proceed / Does anyone know any useful tutorials on the web?

    Again thanks for your contributions!

in all honesty this would be the easiest way to do it..

    to create the rounded edges:

-make a new canvas just slightly bigger than your image
-bring your image into the new canvas on a new layer (the image can't be on the bottom layer, the bottom layer will have to be white or whatever bg color you want
-make a 3rd layer, and using the rounded rectangle tool create a rectangle the same size as your image (aside from the edges of course)
-using the magic wand tool, select the area outside of the rounded rectangle
-go to the 2nd layer (with your image) and hit the delete key
-delete the 3rd layer with the rounded rectangle

    to create the shadow:

-go to the 2nd layer, and hit the "add layer style" button
-choose inner shadow, and make the distance 0. play around with the opacity, choke, and size until you get what you want.

    hope this helps
