Try Flash MX 2004 by Derek Fanklin and Jobe Makkar. I found it very interesting and good even for a beginner. The CD-ROM with sample tutorials are very helpful.
Try the following URL for sneak preview of the book :

Sure, you can find the similar book for version MX also writen by the same authors. You can search in Amazon.com for MX version with the authors name.
    or try this link:

but this is a international edition.

what i have is a similar Indian Edition. Hope just only the price will vary and not the content of the book.

    Peace

I prefer to use two books when beginning...

one for teaching flash and another for actionscript.

The flash books are pretty much all the same it depends on how you like to learn, i.e. do you like to use tutorials... (if you do I recommend the ones created by macromedia press).

For actionscripting I really really like Actionscript Reference from friends of ed... it has every single actionscript and also has chapters covering the other parts of flash (so you dont have to buy the flash book after all).

I just bought the one called: "Flash MX 2004 Savvy," and its very good.

If you look here on Amazon, there's all positive reviews.

    It's pretty cheap, too.

there is a bit of difference between MX and MX 2004 in terms of the interface and how things work...so if you want to learn MX stick to just an MX book.
