    Themed Photography :: Week 21 :: EXPOSURE

It seems that most of the participants here have decent equipment, so let's start getting more familiar with our cameras. I am going to start making each weeks theme more and more camera intensive, so if there are questions, PLEASE ASK! Also, if there is something that you would like to work on let me know and I will make it a theme.

Let's start with something simple, like EXPOSURE. NO, NO, NO, put your clothes back on.....I'm talking about 15-30 second exposure photography. This is one of my favorite forms of photography, as you never really know what you are going to get when you are done.

Time to break out the old tripod (or get one, they're very inexpensive) and dim the lights (or close the aperture) to get that shutter open.....I expect to see some seriously creative ideas here. Once again, nothing less than 15 seconds!!

Use this week's theme creatively and let's see those photos!!

    As always, the Ru|3z:
    • This is NOT a PhotoShop battle it is a photography battle. Only slightly touched up photos may be submitted.
    • Let's keep the file and image size under FK guidelines (under 750 px wide).
    • All photographs must be related to the current weekly theme.
    • Photographs must be taken by the idividual posting (no stealing photos).
    • Use any camera (ie. cellphone, point-and-shoot, disposable) just submit!
    • Multiple submission are welcomed.
    • Photos must be no more than a week old. Take some NEW pictures people!

Have fun, get creative, post as often as you like.

Hummmmm, what to do! My G5 only goes to 15 seconds!

And also, alot of effects I play with don't even need 15 seconds to get a good effect... Can I call shenanigans! on this rule and post these? :

I have failed at this one - can't think of anything clever at the moment

I know it's against the rules, but here's one I made earlier.

Oh, i'm so happy i can contribute a couple photos. I took the camera from work so i could play around with the settings on it, here are a couple that i just shot at 10pm outside of my apartment. I know they're not 'creative' but i'm happy to share and learn a new photography lesson.

BTW, no adjustsments were made to these photos, just straight from the camera and one crop.

What sort of camera do you have?

When looking for a camera to buy I noticed there were a real lack of cameras with manual features :S

What i'm saying is, don't get stressed out if you can't figure it out

    it's a sony cybershot (5.1).

it does have manual feaures, and i did a while back manage to figure out how to alter the exposure time, but the photo was completely washed out because there was so much light!! i need to figure out what else i need to alter to control the light input......

maybe i should read the manual

I had the same problems when experimenting...

Change the ISO to it's lowest setting (50?) that'll make the CCD (film) less sensitive to the light...

Also, if you have an ND Filter option in the menu, turn it on, this blocks a couple stops of light

Also, if working outside use a piece of black card to block direct sunlight from above

Carly, what kind of Cybershot? I've got a 5.1 as well, that's what took the above pictures. Mines a DSC-V1. You can adjust teh shutter speed by setting the top dial to 'S', then dial in the shutter speed with the setting on the right hand of the screen denoted by "NR". 1000 is very fast (actually stands for 1/1000 of a second), the slowest speed on the DSC-V1 is 30 seconds, it will look like: 30" on your cam if it's the same one.

It's M on some models, rather than S. You press the main select/enter button to adjust the speed/depth of field.

Hey Carly, This is the Sony I use:

It's a bit different than yours.
I found the site above useful for settings and features, a similiar camera to yours is on the site too:
