actually i quite like the idea of going with the bike to work. Gets your daily excerise and keeps you fit. (you really notice it in the long run) but some distances are just not possible with the bike. (100+km means atleast 2 hours, if you can get to the 50km/h wich i don't, i get between the 28 and the 45)
Stop whinging, we pay the equivilent of $8-10 per gallon.
No we don't.
Remove the exchange rate and we have been paying about 3.80 of our currency per gallon for a few months now.
(If you go along with 4 liters to the US gallon)
To factor in the country-to country exchange rates for oil that is traded around the world in dollars is absurd.
The only way the exchange rate has any effect on the casual consumer is if they physically move country. So by that, if you take your pounds to the US, you'd actually be paying half (more or less) what they're being asked to stump up, as the pound is currently trading at US$1.78 per squid.

I'm getting a bike to ride to work and back next summer (about 15 miles each way).
I say stop wingeing and get walking....
US cars tend to get less mpg so they end up paying more at the pump....who said bigger was better?

There's an effective, simple solution to carbon sequestration... it's called 'coal', so leave it alone!
There's an effective, simple solution to carbon capture....it's called 'trees', so plant some!
I drove home on empty last night hoping that the prices would drop a little in the morning. I don’t know what the heck I was thinking. It went from $2.85 last night to $3.05 this morning! Cost me $46 dollars to fill up. Luckily I drive a relatively economical car that gets about 28 mpg.
Guess I wont be eating out for a while, or seeing that movie or spending anything on extras for a while.
I've been paying over $3/gallon for 91 for a while ... bring it on - fewer drivers on the roads means I can drive *that much faster*.
If it gets really bad, I only work 2 blocks from home, and I walk 1-2 days a week as it is. Walking more would be nice, I'd just have to wake up earlier
PS: Those of you with spare cash laying around may find energy stocks appealing this week. Most analysts agreed 2-3 weeks ago that they had peaked for the year, but my collective energy funds were up 6+% yesterday and 9+% today. They're bound to crash at some point, but for now they certainly offset the price of gas
I took my current job 5 months back as it was a better job (obviously) and £2.5k extra a year. However, this extra income will be spent on getting me to work which sucks.
but I guess the point is that if the money had been the same, I wouldn't have been able to take the job - and that would have been really harsh, im lucky in that respect.
I think he said he WALKS 1-2 days a week, not WORKS 1-2 days a week...
Reading is fundamental, Admedia. This is what I WAS referring to. LA people will drive 14 seconds to the corner to pick up a newspaper. I live in NYC, where people will walk 3 miles past 25 other delis, just to get the perfect pastrami sandwich.
