Very nice rbs. I like the effect you applied to her face. I'll work on something once I get home tonight.

well its not my choice to bring this woman face back again.
it was Shotsy247 that took the wrong image.

    but its ok with me.

    No more face .

So what does everyone think about this one? I'm doing these to improve my design skills, so any input or suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

    Thanks rbs.

I like the imagry, but feel that it is a bit weak in the typography.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

well i think its nice. but in my opinion there is somthing missing in the picture.
maybe the text 'elements' is not supposed to be in the left corner of the image.

good color balance. nice textures. cool image.

But yeah, your type is a bit off. Don't get me wrong, i like it, but i think it throws off the balnce of the image somehow.

As you'll probably read in other battles, type is sometimes the hardest thing to add to an image, cause it can make it or break it. Now i don't think you broke the image, it is cool.

I generally try to stay away from text in my images just for this reason alone. But then again, if you're not testing and trying new things out, you won't learn, so keep it man, you'll get it.

And, i remember you saying something in one of your early posts here that you're not a designer, but a business major??? (i think that was you?) . Well, you're in good company here, as i started out the same way you have, as i just got my marketing degree not too long ago. If youve got an eye for design, you've got no problems, whether you're a business major, a doctor, or a burger flipper....it's all good!

Keep up the good work (both of you)!!!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I appreciate it.

At first I was thinking that the placement of the text was good and would allow the eye to naturally follow from upper left to lower right, but I guess you're right. Perhaps the "ELEMENT" does catch my eye a little too much. Also, I really have no clue about creating interesting type. I'm just winging it. Although, I seen some cool tuts from other posts here in the arena that I want to try.

Lefteye, you're half right. I did post that I wasn't a designer, because I'm not, or at least I don't get enough time to spend on creating creative design. I'm not a business major though, I spend most of my time in the programming end of the Web.

    Thanks again for the critiques.

No worries. Like I said, I did post that I wasn't a designer. My post count certainly doesn't reflect my time spent in the Arena. I just recently found this corner of Flashkit and have to say that I'm really liking it here. Everyone has been posting some really cool designs, which is just what I need to get my creative juices going.

    Great battle so far guys.

A comment for rbs image. I like the colors and you blended it nicely. I also like the tribal design below the text, but the font face chosen doesn't mesh for me. The design looks more tribal/africa/wilderness and the font looks tech. Just my two cents.

shots, the swan is a bit pixely (the neck and head mostly) and I don't know about the font choice but overall I like the idea. Nice crisp clouds and background

    Very nice turn around Shots.
I quite like the simplicity of this image, it really does bring across a sense of elegance.

You're right JWin the swan is a bit pixelly. It's actually just an image that I reduced the threshold on or increased the threshold, I'm not sure. I did try to clean it up but I guess it could have used a bit more work. I'm still liking my choice of font though.

Thanks Natsia. I like the simplicity too.

You're up rbs. Looking forward to your return.
