I'm fiddling around with some film negatives and my regular not-made-for-scanning-photo-negatives scanner. I was wondering if there is a feature in Photo Impact or Photo Shop to turn that negative into an image.
I'm just shootin' in the dark here, but you can try hitting Ctrl+I to Invert the image. It's not going to give you any color, but it will swap the black and whites for you.

It was harder than I thought it would be to find an image of a negative, but I did manage to find one on this page.
I used that negative in the attached image to show how I got it from it's original state to something that looks a lot like a color photo. And yeah, I did have to do a little bit more to it than simply invert it, but not that much. My guess is that you are going to need a properly scanned negative to get the best results. You might be able to take it to a place that does digital film processing and have them scan it for you if it's more than a whim.
