    Nikon D200

I am looking to treating myself. and fancy the new Nikon D200
Anyone lucky enough to have one.

I went to Jessops and they have 315 on order, so there is a long waiting list.
I really want to see the goods before I order it.

    Any comments
If someone tells you it can't be done,
it's probally because they don't know how.

I would by the much cheaper Nikon D70S...if a Nikon is a must. There really is not that much of a difference between these two cams that makes it worth to spend such an awful lot of money on the body.
For the money you save on the D70S you can buy some nice glasses :-)

    Btw...Nikon always is a good choice!...am I right EV?

Canon is like my butt. Expensive, shapely and beautiful, but only crap comes out of it.

(that was pretty good for an on the fly analogy)

Have you heard/seen something? I thought they'd treat the 5D as the 20D replacement, they have been advertising the 5D and 350D in photography magazines but nothing for the 20D...

Maybe they'll phase it out and lower the 5D price?

    I would choose a 20D over a 5D

The 20d and 5d bodies are in different markets for different people, I imagine an updated 20d will be announced at the upcoming photography trade show. I don't think there's any need to 'replace' the 20d, I'd be annoyed if they made a few small changes and called it a 30d for example.

You certainly can't compare the d200 to the 5d, other than the price the 5d is aimed at a different type of user than the 20d and d200. The full frame, relatively slow shooting and lack of flash should make that obvious.

The d200 is certainly the latest technology, and has some nice Nikonesque features that canon really need to think about adopting, such as treating ISO on a digital camera in the same way you treat speed and apeture. I have however read a few magazines that still give overall image quality to the canon 20d. The d200 is a great ISO performer though.

In the end the camera you prefer should come down to two things, whether you have an existing investment in one brand or not (lenses, flash, etc) and which camera feels 'right' to you - the Nikon ergonomics are quite different to Canon's. I think the latter point is often over-looked when people sit around and look for stats on the internet. Personally I use a camera a lot more if it just feels right to me.

    Much speculation. Here is something:

Has some d200 related reviews and some hearty canon/nikon bashing too.

As mentioned the 5d and 20d are very different beasts. Personally I love the 1.6x crop.
