    dude, that is NICE gesteves! tight control. and, it's nice to see the the circles back...this thread had been bokeh free for a couple pages now (in the traditional sense.)

    what kind of keyboard is that?

    Ah, these boys is all swelled up. So this was earlier...getting set to trade. Then, woooaaah differences.

    Bokeh is the term used for specular highlights that are so blurred due to depth of field they appear as circles.

    See in the top left corner of the keyboard pic?

    It has a shallow depth of field which is good!

    Try the same shot again, but have a highlight in the background and you'll see the bokeh effect.

    Try a candle, or a maglight with the top off.

    thanks for the tip robb. do you mean with the light in shot or just lighting the background?

    With the light in shot.

    Here's a crude demonstration of bokeh, in the top image the green light is in focus and you can see that the circular light is at an angle to the camera (it's skewed a little). In the bottom image it's out of focus and appears as a perfect circle and alot larger.



    Don't worry if you can't get it right, it's often thought of as being a bad thing in an image as it distracts from what is actually in focus

    Edit: Just noticed there's a healthy amount of Bokeh on this :

    thanks for that robb- if i get a chance (if the cat sits still long enough again) i'll try doing it again with a candle in the background.
