This doesn't really explain it but I uploaded a smaller version of the image with the layers intact for somone else to have a look at.

Thanks for the link, I will check it out. Always nice to see how a pro works.
Frankly, I was hoping it didn't come down to artistic eye since I don't have that. I suppose it makes sense though.
So, do you do an area and then if it doesn't look right, you re-do it?
Edit: You work on your images as a Tif and not as a psd?
Edit2: You are incredible. I never realized what could be accomplished with some brushing. I seem to make things more 'perfect' then you on a first try basis (as in, the way you made the wall), but boy do you make it look perfect later on. I am definately going to have to try using more brushes on my work. This is fantastic. I never knew what could be done like this. I do have a couple questions though. On the hole in the roof, how did you get the hole to look like it has depth, there is only 1 layer there, and it is just like 'hole on or off'. Incredible work. This definately inspires me to work better, cleaner, and with more attention to detail.
Edit3: The hole in the ground as well. Just insane the amount of detail man. I can't believe it even though I see it. The subtle cracks on the edges of it. I would just love to sit and watch you make an image, lol.

Nah that was just for filesize sake.

I don't actually use brushes (I assume you were refering to custom brushes) at all. I work with photos of textures exclusively. Probably not the best way, but its just how I do it. The hole was made by combining a few photos of a various holes in walls/wall cross sections with the cracked texture over the top. I just merged the layers somewhere along the way.
Like I said the way I do things is pretty 'cheap and nasty' but it gets the job done I think (I've never used a mask in my life for instance) maybe one day I will learn a more efficient way :
Anyway... current round.

Don't worry, I'm snowed under with work and my thesis. Plus I have a cold. I'll be lucky if I find a few minutes to put something together on saturday.
