Your favorite game soundtracks
In the midst of all these top lists, I've not seen one about video game music.
Much of my gaming addiction comes from 'pure moments'. A moment when everything a great game should have is happening all at once. The play control is tight, the challenge at hand is rewarding, the animation is smooth and pleasing, but most importantly the BGM is capsuling everything into a true visceral experience.
I'm not making this a top 5 or top 10 because I don't wanna see padded results.
Off the top of my head:
Tetrisphere [n64] - my favorite soundtrack ever.
Actraiser 1 [snes] - the closing credits made my eyes water
FF2 [snes] - redefined game scoring
Kyrandia 3 [PC] - great control over mood
Eternal Darkness [gc] - stunning range
Golden Sun [gba] - maybe I was just impressed by the fact that its gba.
Katamari Damaci [ps2] - quirky, but fitting
...there's a lot more
-
supervillain
MUSHA [genesis] - hair rock done as envisioned by Japanese
Streets of Rage 1 & 2 [genesis] - ditto above
Final Fantasy VII *admittedly mainly for Sephiroth's theme song*
Bonk's Revenge [tg16] - you seriously can not stop bobbing your head to this stuff
Samurai Shodown II [neo-geo] - it put you in the mood to slice stuff in half
-
Moonlight shadow
Midtown Madness, on the PC. Class.

Here they are, in no particular order:
1. FF7 (PS) - The boss music is my favorite.
2. Battletoads and Double Dragon (SNES) - the gameplay used to get so monotonous, but the music (specially level 1 and 2) was really cool.
3. Double Dragon II (NES) - One of the first 2-player games I thoroughly enjoyed (specially since you could choose to beat up your own partner!). Loved the gameplay, loved the music (I like 'em all, but Mission 2 and the final boss music stood out the most).
4. Sonic (Genesis) - Who could forget the cheery music of Green Hill Zone, the quirky melody of the Spring Yard Zone, and the laidback tune of the Starlight Zone?
5. Super Off-Road (SNES) - The music went so well with this game, that listening to it alone made playing the game worth it.
6. Bust-A-Move 1 (PS) - Not really that high on my list as compared to the others, but holy crap, the recall was astounding. The songs stayed in my head for days!
7. Starfox (SNES) - During the .mid days of mobile ringtones, mine was a remixed version of the Corneria music. I still play this game from time to time (unfortunately, only on an emulator, seeing as I can't even find my old SNES anymore...).
8. Balloon Fight (NES) - The fact that I still remember the music for this game warrants its place on this list.
9. Rogue Trip (PS) - The game was fun, specially when played with multiple players. The music made it better. There was even a song by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones (Rascal King).
10. Rock n' Roll Racing (SNES) - Rock n' Roll Music. Heavily-modified racing tanks of destruction. 'Nuff said.

The Last Ninja - Commodore 64
Shadow of the Beast - Amiga
All of the sound work (track and effects) for the new 360 game Prey is amazing. Nothing like shooting aliens to "Cat Scratch Fever".

Final Fantasy 6 - SNES
Chrono Trigger - SNES
Xenogears - Playstation
Plok- SNES
The oldies were the best!!

Sweet! Forgot to mention NFSU. Like Static X's song there, but I'm more partial to Rob Zombie's 'Two Lane Blacktop'
-
King of Cool
The Sims.
And Baldur's Gate.
