Unfortunately, my webserver seems to be in a coma at the moment, but I hope to have it resurrected soon ! That's the downside of hosting my sites in a mates dusty old garage !
When I tried using the Palabre XML server on my local machine instead of eClever, the response seemed literally instantaneous. If I can get clearance to put it on my main webserver, I'll show a great demo, where you can move a mouse around on the other persons PC.
The bandwidth usage seems pretty reasonable, but I haven't really tested it heavily yet. Think I'll have to find someone on dial-up to really test it.

1. My webserver seems to have recovered for the time being, so the example above of the chatroom should be working again: http://www.morgan-multinational.com/..._socket_7.html
Maximum of 5 users allowed, but there's not much passing trade, so you might want to arrange to meet someone in there, or open 2 windows to the same page!
2. I tried Palabre as an XML server, which allows unlimited users and seems to be a bit faster. I have a very crude example of how a multiuser app might work here: http://www.morgan-multinational.com/...sematch_1.html
Enter a client name in the top right, and click connect.
Open a second window, enter a different client name and click connect.
Arrange the two windows so you can see them both on your desktop at the same time.
Move the mouse around in 1 window, and the star moves around in the other window.
The movie is sending the X and Y co-ordinates of your mouse via the socket server to the other window, which is presenting it by moving the star. Seems pretty responsive if you ask me !
However - Be prepared for my server to die at any moment, since I've botched this demo together !
Nice! I wasn't able to get the chat to work but the star mouse thing was really cool (it doesn't work if three people are on the site though). Will you be posting the source soon?
As requested, source code for the Mouse movie is attached, although it's not commented so might take a little bit of working out. Remember it uses the Palabre XML Socket Server rather than the eClever one. The chat site seems to be working fine for me. If you have any problems, try a different user ID. Don't put any fancy characters in it though
