OSX/User Interface sound fx

i used to be able to hear a trash can emptying sound fx when i empty my trash can or sent an item to the trash can but now it is silent. the volume on my iMac works though and everything else works. what do i need to adjust?

In the Sound control panel, check the alert volume and that "Play user interface sound effects" is checked.
Other than that, not sure.

after i restarted my computer it works again. by the way, i normally leave my computer on al the time do you guys shut down after you use it or do you just let it run and have it in sleep mode?

I used to leave it in sleep a lot, but now I don't work from home i just shutdown.

Leaving a mac on dosn't do any harm - i do it all the time
