Workshop 1 :: The Egg
O. K. we all know how "on the ball" I've been lately, but I am going to try to make this weekly.
I found this exercise very helpful in learning how to light objects in a variety of ways. This is very simple, take a color photo of an egg on a white piece of paper. Take as many as you want, with whatever lighting you want (as long as it is white).....actually the more you do this the better off you will be.
White paper, white egg, and white light... Now, make it work.

sweet idea EVP! I Wonder if it would be possible for people to post a diagram or photo of the setup as well? or would that be just too much work?

No, I like that idea as well. Maybe just dropping a step back and taking a photo of the setup would suffice.
The idea here is to experiment with the lighting.....different positions of lighting and what happens when you move something inside of that space.

I have work study wednesday/thursday nights with access to lights. I think if I don't get too much work I will give this a shot...
now to just get my hands on an egg....

Yeah, I might get to this later today as well. It's raining here and rather dreary out today. I should set up the lights in the studio and knock a few new ones out.

I only found brown eggs in the fridge

Your 'fridge must be broken then...
Try a paper bag with your brown egg, that should work.....unless all your paper bags are green

it was the kind of effect i was going for, and it was just a desk lamp places close to the egg and a 5 second exposure, to create the 3 diffrent colors.
if i can find a borwn bag or brown paper in the house ill see what i can come up with.
thanks for the crit any way.

I have to agree with silver on this, the right side of the egg is too blown out. Maybe good for and artistic shot, but not really for this workshop. The basic idea of this exercise is to have two objects of the same color so that the lighting is the only thing that separates the two objects.
el-Iggy, I only use the screen for composition and usually don't even look at it after the shots are set up. But, white paper, white egg, grey/black shadow.....didn't notice until I got them on a monitor.

ahh i get u now Ev ill see what i can come up with later in the week when i have time
-
Something else you might try... take a few desk lamps, put the egg on the paper in the corner, and point the lights towards the walls. It's a very pleasing light.
