unfortunately, while I would have loved participating, this is a way too short deadline to have my game finished by ...hopefully, I can negociate a deal outside the competition

    Hi all

Just a quick bump for this thread about our Game Dev Comp - we're very much hoping to see entries from at least some of you guys.

Only just over a week until the deadline for entries now. We've had a good amount of interest but as that doesn't always translate into entries, please don't be deterred and feel free to enter whatever you like.

And, as we're not expecting a huge number of entries, everyone really does have a realistic chance of winning one of the three CA$H prizes.

    Full details are here .

    Cheers
    Rich

The stress invloved with trying to get this finished is almost killing me.

However, there will be an entry from me.

There's another big site right now that's giving out even more, $20,000 in prizes for a Flash game contest, and they are having a really hard time getting people to submit entries even with 5 months notice. So I'm not surprised that this contest may also have trouble getting a good amount of entries.

Gamebrew, that comp you mentioned has already popped up on the forum, and the entry rules are really badly sucky.

The mb comp is a lot fairer. Granted, lower main prize, but then you're only entering a comp with this one, as opposed to giving your work away on the off chance you may win with the other.

Now that I carefully read both terms, ya this one is much better I see the other site changed their rules a bit but I guess the damage is done.

I'm also working on something for the competition. I am worried about the max file size though because I'm already at 730kb and there's no sound yet. So can sound be loaded externally?

A recent combination of quitting World of Warcraft and having time off work with no money has meant that I've had a bit of time to work on something for this.

My entry is nearly finished. It just needs the sound and interface sorting.

And yeah, I went and had a look at that other competition - who are they kidding? Do they really expect people who are actually good to enter that?

Great! Glad to hear we'll have entries from some of you guys.

Holding this comp was beginning to feel a bit like throwing a party and having that last minute panic that no-one's gonna turn up. Surrounded by cans of lager and loads of bags of cheesy wotsits waiting for the doorbell to ring...

We realise that we're not the only game dev comp running at the moment, nor are we offering the biggest prizes, but we've tried to make our submission rules as fair to developers as possible, (largely because we have experience of being on both sides of the developer fence).

Xploder - we won't be disqualifying entries on file-size. The 600kb is really just a guideline, though we'd hope your game's total file-size isn't too much above that.

    Cheers
    Rich

oh, there is a party, too.

great. this way I can deliver the game in person

@ marmotte: you haven't seen it yet, it's a ... well ... quite unusual ... approach for me. (icq me and I show you a WIP)
