**Big Aurora Tonight**
Interested parties will want their tripods, wide lenses and freshly charged batteries and remote cords tonight. Last night, the sun released a big solar flare and it's supposed to make some great Aurora's tonight. Just thought I'd warn everybody.
Good luck and show your pics if you get some.

Can I see that from Germany?

You should be able to see it anywhere when your far enough North. It clouded up here last night, but it was definately over Wisconsin, cause other peole saw it and got pictures of it, even further South than I am.
Here's a few other links that will help. The last one shows the whole globe laid out and where it was seen, and there should be several more days of high activity ahead.

Went out and saw nothing. I will try again tonight. Is there a specific time for certain areas to go out and look?

Supposedly, right at midnight should be the best, since the sun is exactly opposite at that time. The few times I've seen them, it was after 11.

Couple shots from this weeks DPChallenge for sky.
Can't link directly to the photographers page as they don't show identities till after voting is over. Funny, I was expecting a few of these to be entered. But on a pretty regular basis there is a submission with Northern Lights within the image. How often does this actually happen?

Those are great shots. Best I've seen.
It happens quite a bit, but not here in the lower 48. Alaska gets them all the time. It also depends totally on the suns activity, we've been in a quiet time for several years.

i wish i lived further north =(
