meh, doesn't bother me. even if the stock lense i got is crap, i think i'm pretty happy with my purchase. I don't need anhything too special for what i'm doing now. just something better than the crap point and shoots that are out there today.
Oh don't get me wrong. The 300D is a very nice piece of gear and the stock lens will suite your needs. I am using a borrowed stock lens still. But don't worry once you get that camera in your hands you will get the new glass itch like the rest of us and want more
