    [Beta] 2v2 Multiplayer Artillery

My first attempt at a multiplayer game so I tried one of the easiest types of games you can start out with. I don't see how one guy can test the traffic stability of a multiplayer game unless he just releases the thing so here it is. The server side is all PHP4 sockets

I am tracking the maximum simultaneous connections and game sessions, just waiting for it to crash or stall so hopefully it will work out and I can try to make some better multiplayer games in the near future. Please let me know if you have any problems or what you think about it.

Here I am... 10 kills, 1 armor. 4 people playing and then... nothing. Battle stopped and we all just sat there...

I don't normally play these kind of games (multiplayer) at all, but I enjoyed this one.

    Few suggestions:
Graphics were nice, the gameplay seemed a little too simple, and could be a bit more strategic (power-ups?).
The instructions/help seemed rushed, and the arrows made it look really sloppy.
It would be nice if there was a bit of control as to which game/arena you want to play in (especially if you want to play with a certain group fo people or friends).
The small text boxes and limited time made it pretty hard to write anything, but I suppose that's not the purpose of the game

Overall though, nice game and goodluck.

Awesome. Any chance of a tutorial on making multiplayer games?

@EvilKris: I just read all the tutorials here and I think maybe in Kirupa there is one tutorial if you google PHP5 sockets you'll see a chat program. I heavily modified it from there. I didn't want to pay big money for an unlimited use server program. If this fails I might consider it.

@ImprisonedPride: I see a few problems like that. But it's really hard to tell if I programmed it bad or PHP is not suited for this purpose. I see no error outputs on my end. But I will still try to fix them.

Everyone with a slow connection I do a ping-like test to check if you're at least 200ms back and forth. I will relax that number. It's not really necessary in this 10 second per turn game but I wanted to test it for future faster games.

    Thanks!

Really enjoyed playing. Probably more than I should have.

    Congrats!

    ugh, connection problems abound.

I really want to like it, but it's just too slow in the connection and too slow paced when firing.

Connections problems I hope will be fixed, but please at least increase rocket speed.

I was also pretty confused when I first played it, you've got a bit of a usability issue.

I think my only complaint is that the aim is very random.I can't see how strong the wind is at all times and therefore can't adjust the power of my shot accordingly. Therefore it's not so much how skilled a player you are but just luck if you hit the other tanks.
So have the wind strength in the corner or something, not on the cloud.

Other than that, top marks. Really enjoying it.

Thanks EvilKris, I fixed the wind and put it above the mountain, it will indicate the direction better, it even makes a windy sound so you know. Basically the wind changes everytime someone gets hit or someone joins that prevents people from cheating their next shot.

I also made the game faster, just increased the FPS. The help screen I will fix up later on. Thanks!

very nice, but try to avoid powerups, if you make the game good enough, you shouldnt need them to spice it up

my connection runs fine with it

I played you game again, and I think my internet may have been having problems when I first played your game. I still think that the missle speed could be increased though...

And as for powerups, I don't think a good game shouldn't need powerups, I mean, pac-man, gradius, mario, halo, and many other great games all have powerups, and I think a lot of them are better for it. Why restrict yourself from using something that could make your game better if done correctly?

Although, I don't think that your game might be better if there were powerups, unless they are very very well balanced, but at least different shot types might be nice.

Also, I still can't figure out how to move...

Try a store type thing that allows you to buy weapons and armor and such. Try playing scorched earth to get an idea of what I'm talking about. That's a fun game. This one is fun as well.

Looked and played well to me. It was fun I think the wind should shift in smaller increments instead of swinging wildly back and forth though. Also a timer to show how long you have to shoot would be very nice.

There is a timer... it's on the opposite bottom corner of where you aim. As a side note, don't try to type in the chat during your turn, you miss your chance like 50% of the time, or maybe I'm just longwinded...
